Fits MSI GE40 2PC-486XCN and 14 other MSI GE40 models; replaces OEM part BTY-M46.
Delivers 11.1V at 4400mAh (48.84Wh) — enough capacity to sustain the CPU and display under load.
Connector plugs straight into the battery slot with the locking tab seated flush against the frame.
We tested the cell through three full charge cycles; the BMS accepted the pack without fault codes.
After installation, discharge fully to shutdown then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MSI GE40 Series — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTY-M46)

This is an 11.1V, 4400mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the MSI GE40 laptop series. It fits models including the GE40 2PC-486XCN, GE40 20C-002CN, GE40-i760M2811, and GE40 20L-235XCN, among others. OEM part numbers BTY-M46 and 925T2015F both apply to this cell.

  • GE40 series compatibility: These GE40 variants share the same 11.1V three-cell architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why a single cell covers the full model range. The voltage rail and charge termination logic are consistent across every SKU in this lineup.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on a GE40 platform. The BMS communicated correctly with the EC, charge termination triggered cleanly at 100%, and the protection circuit held steady under sustained CPU and GPU load.
  • First-cycle calibration on the GE40: After fitting the new cell, run one full discharge down to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that almost always appears after a cell swap on this platform.

Why the GE40 BIOS flags a new battery as poor health immediately after swap

The GE40's embedded controller reads health data stored in the old cell's EEPROM and compares it against the new cell's reported values. A fresh cell has no charge history, so the EC interprets the mismatch as a fault and raises a health warning. This is not a hardware failure — it is a data calibration gap. Running one complete discharge-to-hibernate then a full uninterrupted charge gives the EC enough cycle data to rewrite its baseline and clear the flag.

GE40 shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

The fuel gauge IC on the GE40 motherboard maps its discharge curve against learned data from the previous cell. When a new cell is installed, that learned curve no longer matches the actual voltage profile of the fresh chemistry. Under full CPU plus display load the voltage drops faster than the gauge predicts, and the system hits the EC's low-voltage cutoff before the displayed percentage reaches zero. After two to three full calibration cycles the fuel gauge IC relearns the curve and the shutdowns stop. If the issue persists past three cycles, check the resting voltage at the connector — it should read at least 10.8V when the screen shows 20%.

Frequently Asked Questions

The GE40 BIOS shows the new battery as "Unknown" or 0% capacity right after I installed it — is the cell faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The GE40's EC reads health and capacity data from the old cell's EEPROM, and a new cell arrives with no stored charge history, so the EC reports unknown status. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That single learn cycle writes a new baseline to the EC and resolves the unknown reading.

My GE40 fuel gauge jumps around wildly — showing 60%, then 45%, then 70% within minutes of unplugging — after fitting this battery.

The fuel gauge IC calibrates its state-of-charge estimate against accumulated cycle data from the previous cell. With a new cell installed, it has no reference curve and interpolates badly, causing erratic percentage readings. Complete two to three full discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles without interruption. After the third cycle the IC will have enough data points to track the new cell's voltage curve accurately.

The GE40 system info shows a lower Wh rating for this battery than I expected — is something wrong with the cell?

The Wh figure displayed in Windows or the BIOS is pulled from EEPROM data embedded in the battery's communication chip, and that value reflects the rated design capacity of the original OEM cell, not a live measurement of the new cell. This replacement is rated at 48.84Wh at the cell level, which matches the GE40's original spec. If the displayed number differs, it is an EEPROM reporting difference between manufacturers — charge capacity and actual runtime are unaffected. Confirm the resting voltage reads 11.1V at full charge to verify the cell is operating correctly.
