This 11.4V 5300mAh (60.42Wh) Li-Polymer battery replaces the BTY-M6J cell in the MSI GS63 7RE Stealth Pro and related GS63/GS73 slim gaming laptops. It restores portable operation on units where the original cell has degraded or failed. Voltage, connector, and BMS handshake match the OEM specification exactly.
- GS63 and GS73 platform fit: The GS63 and GS73 series share the same 11.4V three-cell Li-Polymer rail and BTY-M6J connector pinout. The BMS expects a specific charge curve on that rail — cells outside this spec trigger a protection cutoff. This replacement matches that charge profile.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a GS63 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without a protection trip, and the EC reported charge state correctly across the full range.
- Post-install calibration on the GS63: After fitting, run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning the EC flags after every cell swap.
Why the GS63 BIOS reports poor health immediately after a cell swap
The GS63 EC stores charge history in EEPROM tied to the original cell's chemistry fingerprint. When a new cell goes in, that stored data no longer matches, so the EC flags health as degraded. This is a data mismatch, not a fault with the replacement cell. One full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% rewrites the learn cycle and clears the warning.

Under full CPU and GPU load, the slim 11.4V Li-Polymer cell hits a voltage cliff earlier than the fuel gauge IC predicts from its stored capacity model. The EC sees terminal voltage drop below the cutoff threshold and forces a shutdown before the displayed percentage reaches zero. This happens most often during GPU-intensive sessions where draw spikes beyond what the aged calibration model expects. Run two full discharge-to-100% cycles to give the fuel gauge IC enough data to recalibrate — after that, the shutdown threshold and displayed percentage should align to within 5%.

The Wh figure shown in Windows or MSI Dragon Center pulls from EEPROM data written by the original cell, not a live measurement of the new one. Until the fuel gauge IC runs at least two full calibration cycles, the reported Wh stays anchored to the old cell's stored value. Run two complete discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles. After that, the reported Wh should match 60.42Wh.
The GS63's fuel gauge reads 100% but the laptop drops to 60% within minutes of unplugging — why?
The fuel gauge IC on the GS63 EC calibrates its capacity model against discharge data from the previous cell. After a swap, it has no valid reference point, so it compresses the displayed range. This is not a cell fault — it is the IC working from stale EEPROM data. Run one full uninterrupted discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge to 100% without interruption. The gauge accuracy improves with each completed cycle, typically stabilising after cycle three.
Charging stops at 80% and will not go higher on the GS63 after installing this battery — how do I fix it?
The GS63 BIOS includes a battery charge limit feature, often labelled "Battery Calibration" or "Maximum Battery Charge" in MSI Dragon Center or the BIOS power settings. If this was left enabled before the swap, it caps charging at 80% regardless of which cell is installed. Open MSI Dragon Center, navigate to Battery, and set charge mode to Full Charge — or enter BIOS and disable the charge limit. The cell will then charge to 100%.
