Muraphone KX-FG2451 — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This 2.4V, 850mAh Ni-MH pack replaces the original handset battery in the Muraphone KX-FG2451 cordless phone. It fits both the KXFG2451 and KX-FG2451 handset variants. Voltage and cell chemistry match the base station's charging circuit exactly.

  • KXFG2451 / KX-FG2451 handset fit: Both model designations use the same handset chassis, battery bay dimensions, and 2.4V dual-cell Ni-MH charging circuit. One pack covers both.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the KX-FG2451 base station charger and confirmed the BMS accepted the charge without triggering an error light. Voltage recovery from storage discharge reached nominal levels within the first two full cycles.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before the first call. Ni-MH cells in cordless phones need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping this shortens effective talk time from the start.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

New Ni-MH cells ship in a partially discharged state and need three to five full charge-and-use cycles before they reach rated capacity. On the first cycle, talk time will feel noticeably shorter than expected — this is normal cell behaviour, not a fault. Each subsequent full cycle conditions the cells further. By cycle five, capacity should be at or near the 850mAh rating.

Base station shows no charge or error light with new pack installed

Ni-MH batteries drop below 2.0V during extended storage, and some base stations refuse to charge packs below their acceptance threshold. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, then reseat it firmly — the charging contacts need a clean connection to restart the charge cycle. If the error light persists, check that the contacts on both the handset and base are free of debris. A pack that registers at or above 1.8V on a multimeter will recover with a standard charge cycle once contact is confirmed.

My KX-FG2451 handset is draining overnight even when it's sitting in the base — is the new battery faulty?

This is almost always a seating issue, not a battery fault. If the handset isn't fully clicked into the base, the charging contacts don't close and the handset runs on battery power in standby all night. Remove the handset, wipe the gold contacts on the base and handset with a dry cloth, then reseat it until you feel it click into position. A properly seated handset should show a charging indicator within a few seconds of docking.

After swapping the battery, my KX-FG2451 handset won't pair with the base — did the battery swap cause this?

Yes, it can. Some DECT cordless phones lose their pairing data when power is completely removed from the handset. The fix is straightforward — locate the registration button on the base station (usually labelled FIND or LOCATOR), hold it for three seconds, then follow the handset's on-screen pairing prompt. Pairing typically completes in under a minute and does not require a factory reset of the base.

The KX-FG2451 handset cuts out or sounds distorted when I walk to another room — could the new battery be causing weak range?

Weak range after a battery swap is a real issue with Ni-MH packs that haven't been conditioned yet. The handset's RF transmitter draws a sharp burst of current during transmission, and an under-conditioned Ni-MH cell sags in voltage under that load — the radio backs off power to compensate, and range drops. Run three to five full charge-and-use cycles first. If range is still short after conditioning, check that the handset antenna area isn't blocked by a protective case or label residue from the old battery compartment.
