Fits Natus Smart Scale 56323, 56350, 56320 and replaces OEM part numbers 400850-01, B11040, 301678-01B.
7.2V 2000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers stable voltage throughout the discharge cycle for consistent weight readings and data transmission.
Connector slides straight into the battery compartment with a single locking tab on the right side facing the scale housing.
We bench-tested this cell on the Smart Scale 56323 load profile — BMS accepted the new pack after first full charge with no voltage sag during transmission cycles.
After installation, let the device complete its power-on self-test without interruption; medical scales run BMS verification at startup and stopping this sequence triggers a false battery fault that only clears on full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Natus Smart Scale 56323 / 56350 / 56320 — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (400850-01)

This is a 7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Natus Smart Scale series used in clinical and healthcare settings. It fits the Smart Scale 56323, 56350, 56320, and Smart Scale 23, among other models in the range. The battery powers the scale's electronics, including weight measurement circuits and data transmission.

  • Smart Scale series compatibility: These models share the same 7.2V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell fits the full range without modification or adapter.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Smart Scale platform, confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and verified charge termination triggered correctly at full capacity.
  • Post-swap self-test tip: After installing this battery, let the scale complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The BMS runs a verification check at startup — cutting power during that sequence can latch a false battery fault that persists until a complete reboot.

Low battery alarm persisting after a confirmed full charge on a new cell

The Smart Scale's BMS stores a charge threshold calibrated to the original OEM cell chemistry. A new Ni-MH cell does not match that stored profile until it completes one full charge-discharge cycle. The alarm triggers because the BMS reads internal resistance above its acceptance threshold — not because the cell is actually low. Run one complete charge-to-discharge cycle and the profile resets to match the new cell.

Scale will not power on after the battery has been sitting in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. A cell stored for several months can drop below the BMS's minimum recovery voltage — typically around 6.0V for a 7.2V pack — and the BMS locks out power-on to protect the circuit. Connect the scale to mains power first and allow a slow trickle charge for 30–60 minutes before attempting to power on. Once voltage recovers above the BMS threshold, normal startup resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Smart Scale is showing a low battery warning the moment I install the new battery — is the cell dead?

The cell is not dead. The Smart Scale's BMS compares internal resistance against a stored profile from the original OEM cell, and a fresh Ni-MH cell reads higher resistance than that threshold until it breaks in. Run one full charge cycle — charge to 100%, allow the scale to discharge through normal use, then charge again. After that cycle the BMS recalibrates and the alarm clears.

My Smart Scale shuts off unexpectedly during a weighing session even though the battery shows charged — what's happening?

In the first 10 cycles, a new Ni-MH cell has not yet reached its full charge-acceptance capacity, so voltage sags under the scale's load profile faster than expected. The BMS interprets that voltage dip as a depleted cell and trips the cutoff. Keep the scale on mains power during the first several uses while the cell conditions. After roughly 5–10 full cycles, the cell stabilises and mid-use shutdowns stop.

The charge indicator on the Smart Scale never reaches 100% on the first charge — should I be concerned?

No — this is the charge IC applying a conservative current limit to an unconditioned Ni-MH cell. The Smart Scale's charger uses delta-V detection to terminate charge, and a new cell produces a smaller voltage peak on the first cycle, causing the IC to cut off early before the indicator registers full. Discharge the cell through normal scale operation, then run a second full charge. The charge IC reads the full delta-V peak on the second cycle and the indicator reaches 100%.
