Replaces NetApp N3600 RAID controller backup battery, OEM part number 271-00011.
7.4V 5200mAh lithium-ion cell maintains cache memory power during mains failure and enables safe data flush to disk.
Connector seats into vertical slot on N3600 controller board with single locking tab; confirm seating until clip engages fully.
Bench testing showed BMS accepted ONTAP handshake on first insertion; voltage ramp stabilized within two minutes of initial load draw.
After installation, run the battery learn cycle through ONTAP (system controller battery show) — the controller remains in write-through mode until the cycle completes and recalibrates the backup window estimate against this cell's actual capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nexergy Netapp N3600 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (271-00011)

This 7.4V 5200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM cache backup cell in the NetApp N3600 RAID controller. It provides backup power to the controller's write cache during a power loss event, giving the system time to flush cached data to disk. Matches the OEM part number 271-00011 directly.

  • NetApp N3600 controller compatibility: The N3600 controller validates cell voltage and BMS handshake on every boot. This replacement cell operates on the same 7.4V nominal rail and presents the correct BMS communication profile, so the controller recognises it without firmware changes or manual overrides.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell under simulated cache-flush load and monitored the BMS cutoff behaviour. The cell held voltage within the controller's expected window across full charge and discharge cycles, and the BMS flagged no fault conditions during testing.
  • Post-swap learn cycle initiation: After installing this battery, run a full learn cycle from the management interface — in ONTAP use system controller battery show to confirm status. The N3600 controller stays in write-through mode until the learn cycle completes and recalibrates the backup window estimate against the new cell's actual capacity.

RAID controller staying in write-through mode after battery swap

The N3600 controller does not automatically switch back to write-back mode after a battery replacement. It waits for the learn cycle to finish before it trusts the new cell's backup window estimate. Until that cycle completes, all writes bypass the cache and go directly to disk, which reduces storage throughput. Trigger the learn cycle from ONTAP or your management console and allow 24–72 hours for it to finish under normal system load.

ONTAP still showing a battery error two days after installation

The battery health assessment in ONTAP runs on a timed interval — it does not re-evaluate the cell at the moment of installation. If the scheduled assessment hasn't run yet, the console continues to display the previous fault state. This is not a sign the new cell is defective. Check the assessment timestamp with system controller battery show and confirm the next scheduled assessment has executed before drawing any conclusions about cell health.

Frequently Asked Questions

My N3600 controller switched back to write-through mode the day after I replaced the battery — did I install it wrong?

No. The controller drops to write-through mode after any battery swap and stays there until the learn cycle finishes. It won't recalibrate the backup window estimate — or re-enable write-back caching — until it has completed a full charge/discharge cycle against the new cell. Run `system controller battery show` in ONTAP to check learn cycle status, and allow up to 72 hours under normal load for it to complete.

The backup window on the new cell is shorter than it was on the original battery — is something wrong with it?

A fresh replacement cell often reports a shorter backup window on the first assessment because the controller hasn't recalibrated against the new cell's actual capacity yet. The estimate is based on data from the old cell until the learn cycle runs. Allow two to three full learn cycles to complete and the reported backup window will converge on an accurate figure for the new cell.

The N3600 NVDIMM alarm triggered on reboot immediately after I swapped the battery — what caused it?

The N3600 validates the cell's voltage range on every boot. If the new cell shipped at a partial state of charge and its resting voltage fell outside the controller's acceptance window, the alarm fires. Connect the system to mains power, allow the controller to charge the new cell for several hours, then reboot. Confirm the cell is reading at or above 7.2V before attempting another restart.
