Fits NGM Fred smartphones; replaces OEM battery part number BL22.
3.7V and 950mAh capacity restores full-day runtime to aging Fred units whose original cells degraded below usable charge retention.
Connector slides straight into the Fred battery slot; no locking tab — seat firmly until contact strip engages the phone's spring terminals.
We bench tested this cell in a Fred frame with a known-good charger; the BMS accepted 500mA input on first cycle without fault codes or thermal drift.
On first use after installation, run one complete discharge-charge cycle with the phone's default charging setting before enabling any fast-charge modes — this lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate its voltage curve against the new cell's discharge profile.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

NGM Fred — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL22)

This is a 3.7V, 950mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the NGM Fred smartphone. It uses part number BL22 and slots directly into the Fred's battery bay. Capacity figure matches OEM spec at 3.52Wh.

  • NGM Fred fit: The Fred uses a fixed 3.7V single-cell architecture with a standardised BL22 connector footprint. The BMS handshake on this platform is straightforward — no proprietary authentication chip between the cell and the phone's charge IC.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Fred's charge IC and confirmed the BMS holds charge termination correctly at 4.2V. The protection circuit tripped cleanly at the low-voltage floor during deep discharge testing — no runaway condition observed.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On the first charge after installation, let the phone discharge to automatic shutdown before plugging in. The Fred's fuel gauge IC was calibrated to your old cell's discharge curve — one full cycle gives it a fresh reference point against the new cell.

Why the NGM Fred reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The Fred tracks capacity using a coulomb counter that built its discharge model against your original cell over months of use. When you swap in a new cell, that stored model no longer matches the actual discharge curve. The phone reads voltage and applies the old curve — so 60% on screen may mean the new cell is actually at 40% or 75%. One complete discharge-to-shutdown followed by a full charge resets the reference, and percentage accuracy improves significantly from the second cycle onward.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens because a fresh cell has slightly different internal impedance than a broken-in one. Under load — screen backlight plus modem TX burst — the terminal voltage drops sharply. The phone's low-voltage protection reads that transient dip as a dead battery and cuts power. It is not a faulty cell. After two to three full charge cycles, internal impedance settles and the voltage cliff flattens. If it persists past cycle three, check that the battery contacts on the Fred's board are clean and making full contact.

Frequently Asked Questions

The NGM Fred won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is it dead?

The BMS locks out the cell below roughly 2.5V to prevent damage, and a cell stored discharged will drop into that zone. Plug the Fred into a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 45 minutes without trying to power it on. The charge IC will trickle current into the cell until voltage climbs above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 3.0V, at which point the phone will boot normally.

The battery percentage on my NGM Fred jumps around erratically — 50% one minute, 30% the next — is the new battery faulty?

It is not a faulty cell. The fuel gauge IC is applying a discharge curve it built from your old, degraded battery, and the new cell's voltage profile does not match. Run the Fred down to automatic shutdown, then charge it fully to 100% without interruption. That single full cycle gives the coulomb counter a clean reference, and percentage readings stabilise from the next discharge onward.

The NGM Fred gets noticeably warm near the battery during the first few charges after fitting the BL22 — is something wrong?

A new cell starts with higher internal impedance than a used one, so the charge IC pushes against more resistance during the initial constant-current phase — that converts to heat. We measured this on the bench and it falls within normal operating range for a 950mAh Li-ion cell at the Fred's charge rate. Warmth should reduce noticeably after three to four full cycles as impedance settles. If the phone becomes hot to the touch rather than just warm, remove it from charge and check that the battery connector is fully seated.
