Fits Nokia N97 Mini, E5, N8, and E7 smartphones; replaces OEM part number BL-4D.
3.7V nominal voltage, 950mAh capacity delivers the same power output as the original cell.
Connector type is standard Nokia proprietary; seats flush into the battery slot without modification.
We bench-tested this cell on an N97 Mini; the BMS accepted the new pack on first insertion.
On first charge after installation, complete one full discharge-charge cycle before resuming normal use—the fuel gauge IC needs to recalibrate against this cell's discharge curve to prevent percentage reporting errors.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nokia N97 Mini / E5 / N8 / E7 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL-4D)

The BL-4D is a 3.7V, 950mAh Li-ion cell that powers the Nokia N97 Mini, E5, N8, and E7 smartphones. It slots into the original battery compartment and connects to the same three-pin contact strip the device expects. Capacity is 950mAh (3.52Wh), matching the OEM specification.

  • N97 Mini, E5, N8, and E7 compatibility: These models share the BL-4D footprint, contact pitch, and 3.7V nominal voltage rail. The BMS on each device reads cell impedance during the first charge cycle, so the physical fit and electrical spec must match — this cell meets both requirements.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled the BL-4D on an N8 and an E5 through three full charge-discharge cycles. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V on both units.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On the N97 Mini, disable Symbian's background sync during the first full discharge-charge cycle. Background data pulls uneven current, which prevents the coulomb counter from building an accurate baseline against the new cell's discharge curve.

Why the N97 Mini reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The N97 Mini uses a coulomb counter that was calibrated against the original cell's internal resistance profile. A new cell has different impedance, so the counter starts with a skewed reference. The phone may display 40% when the cell is closer to 70%, or vice versa. One complete uninterrupted discharge to auto-shutoff followed by a full charge to 100% resets the counter against the new cell's actual curve.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement BL-4D

This happens when the modem fires a high-current burst — during a call handoff or data sync — and the cell voltage sags below the BMS cutoff threshold even though the displayed percentage looks safe. The fuel gauge hasn't yet mapped where that voltage cliff sits on the new cell. Run two full calibration cycles first. After that, if shutdowns continue below 3.2V under load, the BMS cutoff is working correctly and the cell is at a lower state of charge than the percentage shown.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nokia N97 Mini won't turn on at all after the new BL-4D sat in a drawer for a few months — is the battery dead?

The BMS locks out when cell voltage drops below roughly 2.5V during extended storage. Plug the phone into a wall charger — not a PC port — and leave it for 45 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC needs time to trickle current into the cell before the BMS will release the lockout and allow a normal boot.

The N97 Mini percentage jumps around erratically — it goes from 60% down to 30% in seconds, then back up.

The coulomb counter is recalibrating against the new cell's discharge curve and hasn't built a stable reference yet. This is normal for the first two to three cycles. Let the phone discharge fully to auto-shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% twice. After that, the percentage should track smoothly. If jumping continues past three full cycles, check that the battery contacts on the phone are clean and making firm contact.

The phone feels warm near the battery compartment during the first few charges after fitting the BL-4D — should I stop charging?

A new high-impedance cell generates more heat than a broken-in one because the charge IC pushes current against higher internal resistance. Mild warmth during the first two or three charges is normal. If the phone becomes too hot to hold comfortably, stop the charge and let it cool before resuming. After the cell's impedance drops through a few cycles, charging temperature will settle back to the level you saw with the original battery.
