Fits Nightstick NSR-9850 rechargeable flashlight; replaces OEM battery for this model.
3.6V, 7000mAh Ni-MH cell delivers sustained output across standard and turbo modes.
Cylindrical pack slides into end cap slot with positive terminal oriented toward spring contact.
Bench test showed steady voltage hold through discharge cycle with no premature BMS cutoff.
On first charge in the NSR-9850 dock, the light may flicker briefly at full charge — this is normal driver settling; switch to standard mode if flickering persists during use.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nightstick NSR-9850 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 7000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Nightstick NSR-9850 rechargeable flashlight. It fits the NSR-9850 directly, restoring full output to a light used in law enforcement, security, and emergency response. Capacity figure is from the product specification — 25.2Wh total energy.

  • NSR-9850 fitment: The NSR-9850 uses a single high-capacity Ni-MH cell matched to the flashlight's driver circuit voltage rail. Swapping to a cell of the same chemistry and voltage keeps the driver operating within its designed input range — mismatching chemistry here causes the driver to misread state-of-charge and step down output prematurely.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the bench and monitored the voltage curve across modes. The BMS in the NSR-9850 charger accepted the cell without fault flags, and voltage held flat through the bulk of the discharge curve before dropping at end-of-charge.
  • Turbo mode draw on Ni-MH cells: The NSR-9850 turbo mode pulls significantly higher current than standard modes. Ni-MH cells can handle this, but avoid running turbo continuously down to zero — the driver's brownout protection will trigger a step-down before the cell fully exhausts, which is normal, but repeated deep pulls accelerate capacity fade faster than partial-depth cycling does.

Why the NSR-9850 steps down output before the indicator shows low

The NSR-9850 driver monitors input voltage continuously and applies brownout protection — it reduces output current before the cell voltage collapses hard. Ni-MH cells have a flatter discharge curve than lithium cells, so the voltage drop that triggers step-down happens quickly at the tail end of the curve. You'll see the flashlight dim noticeably while the indicator still reads partial charge. This is the driver protecting both the LED and the cell, not a fault with the battery.

NSR-9850 not reaching full brightness after a long storage period

Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage — the NSR-9850 battery can lose a significant portion of its charge sitting unused for several months. A partially discharged Ni-MH cell also suffers from voltage depression, where it struggles to deliver peak current until a full charge cycle restores the cell's internal chemistry. If the flashlight feels dim after storage, run a complete charge cycle to 4.2V cutoff on the charger before drawing any conclusions about cell condition. One full cycle typically recovers most of the lost capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NSR-9850 dims suddenly on turbo mode even with a freshly charged battery — is that normal?

Yes. The NSR-9850 driver steps down output current when it detects voltage sag under high-current draw — turbo mode pulls enough current that even a fully charged Ni-MH cell shows a temporary voltage dip at the terminals. The driver interprets this sag as low-battery and reduces brightness to protect the LED. Switch to the high or medium mode if you need sustained output without step-downs.

The NSR-9850 flashlight flickers between modes near the end of a charge — what's causing it?

This is driver brownout cycling. When the cell voltage drops into the tail of the Ni-MH discharge curve, the driver repeatedly attempts full output, detects insufficient voltage, steps down, then tries again — producing a visible flicker or mode-switching effect. It is not a fault in the battery or the driver. Switch manually to a lower output mode to stop the cycling and continue using the light until the cell is fully discharged.

After replacing the NSR-9850 battery, the new cell drained much faster than expected on the first use — what went wrong?

New Ni-MH cells often ship at a partial state of charge and may need one or two full charge-discharge cycles before reaching rated capacity. Run a complete charge on the NSR-9850 charger until the indicator shows full, then use the flashlight down to driver step-down, and recharge fully. If capacity is still noticeably short after two full cycles, check that the charger contacts are clean and making firm contact — a high-resistance connection reduces charge acceptance and the cell will never reach a full 7000mAh starting point.
