Fits Bayco XPR-9850 and XPR-9860 rechargeable flashlights; replaces OEM part XPR-9850BATT.
3.6V, 7000mAh Ni-MH delivers 25.2Wh — sustains the flashlight at full brightness across work and emergency modes.
Cylindrical pack slides into the battery tube with no polarity reversal; friction fit holds without locking tabs.
We charged this cell from empty through three full cycles; the Bayco driver engaged smoothly with no brownout hesitation.
On first insertion after long storage, the flashlight may dim briefly — run one full discharge cycle to clear the NiMH memory effect before returning to normal output.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Bayco XPR-9850 / XPR-9860 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (XPR-9850BATT)

This is a 3.6V, 7000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Bayco XPR-9850 and XPR-9860 rechargeable flashlights. It slots in as a direct cell replacement when the original pack loses capacity or stops holding charge. Capacity is 25.2Wh — matched to the original specification.

  • XPR-9850 and XPR-9860 compatibility: Both models use the same OEM part number (XPR-9850BATT) and share an identical cell format, voltage rail, and connector. One replacement covers either light without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the XPR-9850 driver at full output and stepped down through standard mode. The Ni-MH chemistry held voltage above the driver's brownout threshold through the full discharge curve before the light stepped down.
  • Single-cell replacement note: The XPR-9850 runs on one large-format Ni-MH cell rather than a multi-cell pack. When replacing, make sure the contact springs are clean and unobstructed — corrosion on the spring contacts is the most common cause of intermittent connection after a new cell is installed.

Flashlight driver stepping down output before the battery reads low

The XPR-9850 driver monitors cell voltage continuously and steps output down before the battery indicator triggers. Ni-MH cells have a flatter discharge curve than Li-ion, so the driver hits its brownout threshold while the cell still has usable charge remaining. This is intentional — the driver protects the cell from over-discharge, which permanently reduces Ni-MH capacity. If the light dims unexpectedly, switch to a lower output mode to keep the cell above the 1.0V cutoff and extract the remaining charge.

Significantly shorter output in turbo mode compared to standard mode

Turbo mode on the XPR-9850 draws current at a rate far higher than standard or low mode — often five to ten times greater. A 7000mAh Ni-MH cell delivers its rated capacity at moderate draw rates; at turbo-level current, internal resistance causes the cell voltage to sag faster and the driver cuts output sooner. This is a chemistry constraint, not a fault with the replacement cell. To get the most out of a full charge, use turbo in short bursts and drop to standard mode for sustained illumination.

Frequently Asked Questions

My XPR-9850 flickers and cycles through modes on its own near the end of a charge — is the battery faulty?

This is driver brownout cycling, not a faulty cell. When the Ni-MH cell voltage sags close to the driver's minimum threshold, the driver briefly loses regulation, resets, and restarts — which reads as flickering or mode-jumping. The fix is straightforward: manually switch to a lower output mode before the light starts cycling. That keeps the cell voltage above the cutoff and stops the reset loop.

The new battery charges fully but the light still dims faster than expected in turbo mode — what's causing that?

Turbo mode pulls high current from the cell, and Ni-MH chemistry has higher internal resistance than Li-ion. At turbo-level draw, internal resistance causes voltage to sag quickly, triggering the driver's brownout protection and stepping output down. The cell's 7000mAh capacity is fully available — it just delivers more of it at moderate current rates. Use turbo for short bursts and run standard mode for sustained output to keep the driver out of its protection range.

The spring contacts in my XPR-9850 look slightly discoloured — could that affect how the new cell performs?

Yes. Corroded or dirty spring contacts add resistance between the cell and the driver, which causes voltage drop under load even with a fully charged replacement cell. The symptom is the light cutting out or dimming under high draw despite the new battery reading charged. Clean the contact springs with a pencil eraser or fine sandpaper, then wipe with isopropyl alcohol. Retest at full output — the light should hold steady if the contacts are making clean connection.
