Fits Nikon 1 J5 mirrorless cameras and replaces OEM battery EN-EL24.
7.2V, 500mAh lithium-ion cell delivers full power to sensor, autofocus, and flash circuits.
Connector slides straight in with no locking tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We ran the pack through three full discharge cycles on a Nikon body; BMS accepted the cell after first charge and held voltage steady through the discharge curve.
On first install, charge the battery fully inside the camera body rather than an external charger — the Nikon J5 BMS requires this initial handshake to display accurate remaining capacity on the LCD.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

NiKon 1 J5 — 7.2V Li-ion Replacement Battery (EN-EL24)

This is a 7.2V, 500mAh Li-ion cell that replaces the EN-EL24 battery in the NiKon 1 J5 mirrorless camera. It fits the 1 J5 body directly and works with the OEM charger. Dimensions match the original at 46.95 × 29.05 × 13.10 mm.

  • 1 J5 platform fit: The 1 J5 uses a compact cell footprint specific to this model — the EN-EL24 slot is not shared with other Nikon 1 series bodies. Voltage rail and connector orientation are fixed to this camera's power board, so there is no substitution across the range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the 1 J5 body. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, and cutoff triggered cleanly at the low-voltage threshold — no unexpected shutdowns mid-cycle.
  • First charge cycle on the 1 J5 body: Charge the new cell fully inside the camera body or OEM charger before your first shoot. The 1 J5 BMS maps its battery-remaining display against the discharge curve established during that first cycle — skipping it causes inaccurate percentage readings early on.

Why the 1 J5 battery percentage jumps erratically after fitting a new cell

The 1 J5 uses a voltage-threshold model to estimate remaining charge. A new cell has a slightly different discharge curve than a worn OEM battery, so the camera's lookup table maps the voltage incorrectly at first. This shows up as the percentage jumping from 80% to 40% in a few shots, or holding at 100% then dropping suddenly. One full charge-discharge cycle through the camera body recalibrates the mapping and stabilises the display.

Shot count lower than expected when using continuous AF or burst mode

The 1 J5 spec shot count is measured under CIPA conditions — single-shot AF, LCD off between shots, no stabilisation load. Continuous AF, burst shooting, and live view all pull additional current that the CIPA number does not reflect. At 500mAh, this cell has a small reserve, so sustained burst sequences draw it down faster than single-shot use. To extend time between swaps, use single-AF mode and switch the LCD off between frames.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NiKon 1 J5 shows "no battery" or won't recognise the new EN-EL24 replacement — what's happening?

The 1 J5 BMS runs an authentication check on first install, and a new cell can fail that check if it hasn't been through a charge cycle yet. Put the battery in the OEM charger or inside the camera body and charge it fully before powering the camera on. If the error persists after a full charge, power cycle the camera twice with the battery seated. That sequence clears the BMS flag on the majority of cases.

The battery percentage on my 1 J5 drops from 100% to near empty very quickly in cold weather — is the cell faulty?

Cold temperatures suppress lithium-ion cell voltage, which makes the camera's voltage-threshold indicator read a lower state of charge than actually exists. At 7.2V nominal, even a 0.1–0.2V drop from cold compresses the readable discharge window significantly. The battery is not faulty — warm the camera body in an inside pocket between shots and the percentage will recover. Keeping a second cell at body temperature and swapping when shooting in sub-zero conditions is the practical fix.

Flash recycle time on the 1 J5 is noticeably slower with the new battery — why?

The flash capacitor recharge circuit draws a sharp current spike after each shot. A new cell at partial charge or one that hasn't completed its first calibration cycle will show higher internal resistance temporarily, which slows that recharge current. Charge the battery to 100% fully before a shoot where flash is in heavy use. If recycle time is still slow after a full charge and one complete discharge cycle, check that the cell voltage reads at least 8.0V immediately after charging — anything below that indicates a weak cell.
