Fits NorthStar Aries series laptops; replaces OEM part numbers DR202, EMC36, ME202BB, NL2020, and SMP02.
10.8V at 6600mAh delivers 71.28Wh — matches original output for full unplugged session runtime on this notebook.
Connector type and slot orientation match Aries series housing; locking tab seats flush without force or shimming required.
We bench-tested this cell on Aries platform hardware; BMS handshake completed on first insertion and held voltage under sustained CPU load.
After installation, run one full discharge to hibernation cutoff then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears inaccurate health warnings that appear after every cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

NorthStar Aries Series — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (DR202)

This is a 10.8V, 6600mAh (71.28Wh) lithium-ion battery for NorthStar Aries series laptops. It replaces OEM part numbers DR202, EMC36, ME202BB, NL2020, and SMP02. If your original cell no longer holds a charge or the system refuses to recognise it, this is a direct swap.

  • Aries series compatibility: NorthStar used a consistent 10.8V battery rail and the same connector footprint across the Aries lineup. The EEPROM embedded in this cell carries the correct capacity and chemistry flags, so the BIOS picks it up without manual configuration.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on an Aries unit. The BMS engaged correctly at both ends — no false low-voltage cutoffs, and charge termination landed at the correct 12.6V ceiling.
  • First-cycle reset after install: After fitting this battery, run one full discharge down to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the BIOS to complete a battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.

BIOS reporting poor battery health after swapping cells

The Aries BIOS reads stored capacity data from the battery's EEPROM at boot. When a new cell goes in, the EEPROM values don't match the discharge history the BIOS accumulated for the old cell. The system flags this as degraded health — it's a data mismatch, not a faulty battery. One full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% gives the BIOS enough data to recalibrate and clear the warning.

Laptop shutting down at 20–30% charge remaining

This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't calibrated to the new cell yet. The voltage curve on a fresh lithium-ion cell differs slightly from a worn one, so the OS fuel gauge misreads the remaining capacity. Under full CPU and display load, the cell hits a voltage cliff before the gauge expects it, triggering an emergency shutdown. Run two to three full discharge-and-charge cycles — the fuel gauge IC maps the new curve and the shutdowns stop.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Aries BIOS shows the new battery as "0% — plugged in, not charging" right after install. What's happening?

The BIOS detected a fresh EEPROM with no discharge history and locked charging as a precaution. Shut the laptop down completely, leave it connected to AC for 10 minutes, then boot. If it still reads 0%, hold the power button for 30 seconds with AC disconnected to drain residual charge from the board, then reconnect AC and boot again — the BIOS re-polls the battery and charging resumes.

System info is showing this battery as 48Wh, but the spec says 71.28Wh. Is the cell faulty?

The displayed Wh figure pulls from EEPROM data the BIOS cached for the old cell — it hasn't updated to the new cell's rating yet. This is a firmware read issue, not a capacity fault. Complete one full discharge-to-hibernate and a full uninterrupted charge to 100%. After that cycle the BIOS re-reads the EEPROM and the correct 71.28Wh figure appears in system info.

Charge stops at 80% and won't go higher. The laptop has never done this before.

Some NorthStar Aries BIOS versions include a charge-limit setting that activates automatically when the system detects a new cell. Check the BIOS power management page — look for "Battery Charge Threshold" or "Max Charge Level" and confirm it's set to 100%. If the setting is already at 100%, run the battery down to hibernate-cutoff and charge uninterrupted — this clears a conservative charge floor the BMS sets on the first cycle after a swap.
