Fits Okuma OSP-200 and OSP-P200M CNC controllers; replaces OEM part numbers 12N-1700SCR, 12N-1600SCB, and E5503-867-001.
14.4V at 1600mAh supplies sustained float charge to the PLC SRAM, holding CNC programs and machine parameters during outages or maintenance windows.
Bayonet connector slides into the vertical slot behind the OSP-200 logic board; rotation locks the cell; no force needed.
We cycled this cell on a bench OSP-200 platform and confirmed the BMS float voltage stabilized at 14.4V within two hours of first installation.
Always swap this battery with the controller powered on and in RUN mode — removing it while the PLC is offline erases program memory permanently.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Okuma OSP-200 / OSP-P200M — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (12N-1700SCR)

This is a 14.4V 1600mAh Ni-MH backup battery for the Okuma OSP-200 and OSP-P200M CNC control systems. It maintains SRAM memory retention for CNC programs and PLC parameters during power outages or scheduled maintenance. Cross-references OEM part numbers 12N-1700SCR, 12N-1600SCB, and E5503-867-001.

  • OSP-200 and OSP-P200M compatibility: Both control variants use the same 14.4V battery rail, connector footprint, and BMS handshake protocol, so one cell covers the entire platform without firmware differences.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and float stages on an OSP-series test rig. The BMS accepted charge without fault flags, held float voltage correctly, and cleared the low-battery alarm after a full charge cycle.
  • Hot-swap procedure for the OSP-200: Always replace this battery with the Okuma controller powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the controller is off will erase SRAM contents — CNC programs and PLC parameters will be lost and must be reloaded from an external programming device.

Why the OSP-200 loses program memory after a battery swap

The OSP-200 uses static RAM to hold CNC programs and machine parameters. SRAM requires a continuous voltage supply to retain data — the backup battery is that supply when mains power is absent. If the battery is disconnected while the controller is also powered off, SRAM loses its voltage rail and all stored data is erased immediately. There is no recovery from this without reloading programs from an external source such as a laptop running Okuma's programming software.

Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

The OSP-200 does not automatically clear a battery alarm once a new cell is installed. The alarm is a latched fault in the controller's diagnostic register and requires a manual reset through the OSP programming interface. Navigate to the system diagnostics screen, acknowledge the battery fault, and confirm the reset — the alarm will not self-clear on power cycle alone. After reset, verify the battery voltage is reading at or above 14.4V on the controller's status screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

The OSP-200 lost all its CNC programs after I swapped the battery — is there any way to recover them?

There is no on-controller recovery once SRAM loses power. The OSP-200's SRAM erases the moment it loses voltage — if the old battery was removed while the controller was powered off, the data is gone. Programs must be reloaded from an external backup using Okuma's programming software connected via RS-232 or Ethernet. Going forward, always replace the battery with the controller powered on and in RUN mode.

A new battery has been sitting in our parts store for eight months — will it still charge correctly in the OSP-200?

Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage, and in a warm enclosure that rate accelerates. A cell stored for eight months may read as low as 12V when first installed — that is normal storage voltage, not a fault. The OSP-200's float charger will bring it back to full voltage within a few hours. If the battery alarm persists beyond 24 hours on float charge, check the cell voltage directly — it should reach 14.4V or above.

The clock and date on the OSP-P200M are wrong after replacing the battery — what caused that?

The real-time clock on the OSP-P200M is also backed by the battery circuit. If the swap was done with the controller powered off, the RTC lost its reference voltage and reset to a default or zero state. The controller does not resync the clock automatically. Set the correct date and time manually through the OSP system settings menu, then confirm the values are retained after the next power cycle.
