Fits Olympus 38DL Plus Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge; replaces OEM part 38-BAT.
10.8V, 2600mAh lithium-ion cell delivers sustained power through full measurement sessions without mid-survey cutoff.
Connector seats vertically into the battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab engages on insertion.
Bench testing confirmed the BMS accepts load current spikes from probe initialization without nuisance shutdown.
After installation, run the instrument's full calibration cycle before field deployment — this synchronizes battery voltage mapping and prevents false low-battery warnings during first measurement sessions.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Olympus 38DL Plus Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (38-BAT)

This is a 10.8V, 2600mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Olympus 38DL Plus Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge. It fits the 38DL Plus series using OEM part numbers 38-BAT, CW-38-BAT, and Epoch4. The pack slots into the same battery bay and connects via the original interface without modification.

  • 38DL Plus and Epoch4 platform compatibility: These instruments share the same 10.8V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single pack covers both device families without any adapter or wiring change.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the 38DL Plus power-on sequence, probe initialisation, and sustained measurement logging. The BMS held stable across the current spike at transducer power-up and did not trip during continuous scan sessions.
  • Calibration cycle after installation: After fitting a new pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment. The 38DL Plus maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings to appear during your first measurement session, even with a full charge.

BMS cutoff when the transducer initialises on power-up

The 38DL Plus sends a short high-current pulse to the probe module during initialisation. On a degraded or deeply discharged pack, this spike can trip the BMS overcurrent threshold before the instrument reaches its home screen. The pack is not faulty — the BMS has latched into protection mode. Charge the battery to at least 11.5V before reinserting, then power on without a probe attached first to let the instrument boot fully before connecting the transducer.

Readings resetting or drifting mid-session during continuous logging

During extended logging runs, sustained sensor load can cause a brief voltage dropout if the cell is below 50% capacity. The 38DL Plus interprets this dropout as a power event and resets the active measurement session. This is not a firmware fault — it is a voltage sag issue at the cell level. Keep the pack above 11.1V during long field sessions, or carry a second charged battery and swap at the halfway point rather than running the pack to depletion.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 38DL Plus won't charge after sitting unused in the carry case for several months — is the battery dead?

Most likely the pack has discharged below the BMS recovery threshold, which puts it into deep-sleep lockout. Connect the charger and leave it for at least 30–40 minutes without interruption — some chargers show no LED activity for the first 20 minutes while the BMS wakes and accepts trickle current. If the pack recovers to 10.8V and completes a full charge cycle, it is functional. If the charger still shows no response after 45 minutes, the cells have dropped below 9V and will not recover.

The instrument powers on fine but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to the PC — why?

USB data transfer adds a combined draw on top of the active measurement circuit — the 38DL Plus runs both simultaneously during export. If the pack is below around 60% charge, that combined load pulls voltage low enough to trigger the BMS undervoltage cutoff. Charge the battery fully before any PC transfer session, and avoid running the transfer while the instrument is also actively logging measurements.

The battery percentage on the 38DL Plus display jumps around erratically after I installed the new pack — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong with the pack. The instrument's voltage-threshold indicator is recalibrating to the new cell's discharge curve, which differs slightly from the original. Run two full charge-to-depletion cycles and let the instrument reach its auto-shutoff each time. After that, the displayed percentage will track accurately. Skipping the calibration cycle in the instrument menu also causes this — run it before field use.
