Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Omron CPM2C — 3.6V Li-SOCl2 Replacement Battery (CPM2C-BAT01)
This is a 3.6V 450mAh lithium thionyl chloride cell that replaces the CPM2C-BAT01 in the Omron CPM2C PLC. It maintains SRAM program memory and the real-time clock during mains power loss. When the original cell depletes, the CPM2C can lose retained data and clock accuracy on the next power cycle.
- CPM2C platform fit: The CPM2C uses a dedicated backup cell on a 3.6V rail to hold SRAM and RTC state independently of the main power supply. This cell matches the original voltage rail, connector form factor, and current draw profile the CPM2C-BAT01 specifies.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell against a CPM2C unit and confirmed the BMS accepted the new cell without fault flags on a live swap. Voltage held stable and the controller retained its program state throughout the exchange.
- Hot-swap requirement on the CPM2C: Always replace this battery with the CPM2C powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the old cell while the controller is powered off collapses the SRAM voltage rail immediately — the program is gone before the new cell seats. If the PLC was off during the swap, reload the program from your programming device before restarting.
Why the CPM2C battery alarm stays active after fitting a new cell
The CPM2C does not automatically clear its battery alarm flag when a new cell is installed. The alarm is a latched status bit in the controller — it persists until you clear it manually through CX-Programmer or the equivalent programming console. Connect to the PLC, navigate to the PLC status or error log section, and reset the battery alarm bit. If the flag reappears within 24 hours, check the cell is seated fully and the connector is making solid contact.
New CPM2C-BAT01 cell reading below 3.6V on a multimeter
Li-SOCl2 cells ship in a passivated state — a thin layer forms on the lithium anode during storage and suppresses open-circuit voltage. A fresh cell may measure 3.2–3.4V before it has seen any load or float charge. Once seated in a powered CPM2C, the passivation layer breaks down within a few hours and the cell rises to its rated 3.6V. If voltage has not recovered to at least 3.5V after 12 hours on a live controller, reseat the cell and verify connector continuity.

Frequently Asked Questions
The CPM2C lost its program after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?
The program was stored in SRAM, which lost power the moment you pulled the old cell with the controller off. Li-SOCl2 backup cells provide the only voltage to that memory block — there is no secondary hold-up capacitor on the CPM2C. The data is gone from the controller and cannot be recovered from the PLC itself. Reload the program from a backup file using CX-Programmer, then confirm the RTC is set correctly before returning the machine to service.
The clock on the CPM2C is showing the wrong date and time after the battery replacement — why?
The real-time clock lost its reference when the SRAM rail dropped during the swap, even briefly. The CPM2C RTC does not resync automatically — it either holds its last value from SRAM or resets to a default timestamp depending on how long power was interrupted. Connect via CX-Programmer, go to PLC — Edit — Clock, and set the correct date and time manually. Confirm the new cell is seated and the controller is powered before closing the session, so the updated time is written to the now-live RTC.
This battery seems to be depleting faster than the last one did — what shortens its service life on the CPM2C?
Li-SOCl2 self-discharge doubles roughly every 10°C above 25°C. If the CPM2C sits inside a warm enclosure — common in compact panel builds — the cell sees elevated ambient temperature continuously and loses capacity faster between maintenance cycles. Check the enclosure temperature at the controller's location; anything above 40°C will noticeably shorten the replacement interval. Move the controller to a cooler zone of the panel or add ventilation, and note the installation date on the cell so the next replacement is scheduled before depletion, not after a memory loss event.
