Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Oppo R5 / R8107 / R8109 — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BLP579)

The BLP579 is a 3.8V, 2000mAh lithium-polymer cell for the Oppo R5 smartphone and its R8107 and R8109 variants. At 2.90mm thick, the cell matches the R5's ultra-slim chassis — standard Li-ion cells will not fit this frame. This listing covers the direct swap for an original battery that no longer holds charge or causes unexpected shutdowns.

  • R5, R8107, R8109 compatibility: All three model numbers share the same motherboard connector, BMS handshake protocol, and 2.90mm z-height constraint. The BLP579 part number covers the entire R5 family — there is no separate SKU for each variant.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge, load, and low-voltage cutoff on the R5 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without a forced reset, and the charge IC reached full termination voltage without fault flags.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration after swap: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-to-charge cycle. This gives the fuel gauge IC one complete curve to calibrate against the new cell before high-current charging begins on an uncalibrated reference.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

The R5's fuel gauge IC carries the discharge curve from the old, degraded cell into the first few cycles with a new one. When the phone hits a point where the old curve predicted voltage collapse, it signals shutdown — even though the new cell has capacity left. This is a coulomb counter mismatch, not a faulty battery. One full uninterrupted discharge down to auto-off, followed by a full charge, resets the reference curve. After that cycle, shutdowns at 20–30% should stop.

Phone warm near the battery during the first charge after replacement

A new lithium-polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a cell that has been cycled. The charge IC on the R5 pushes current into that higher resistance, which generates more heat in the first one or two charge sessions. This is normal and typically resolves after two to three cycles as impedance drops. If the device stays warm past the third full charge, check that the connector is fully seated — a partially connected cell forces the charge IC to work harder against a resistive contact point.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Oppo R5 powers off at around 25% after fitting the new BLP579 — is the battery faulty?

The battery is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC on the R5 retained the discharge curve from the old cell, so it triggers shutdown at the voltage point where the original cell would have collapsed. Run one full discharge to auto-off, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using the phone. That single cycle rewrites the coulomb counter reference and the early shutdowns stop.

The Oppo R5 won't power on after the BLP579 sat in a drawer for several months — what's happening?

Li-polymer cells in storage self-discharge slowly, and if the cell dropped below roughly 2.5V the BMS trips into lockout to prevent damage. Plug the phone into a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for at least 20 minutes before pressing the power button. The charge IC on the R5 trickle-charges a locked-out cell before the BMS resets and allows normal boot. If there is no response after 30 minutes on charge, try a different cable, as the R5's micro-USB port is prone to contact wear.

Battery percentage is jumping around erratically — showing 60%, then 45%, then back to 55% without much use — after replacing the BLP579. What causes that?

This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against the new cell's discharge profile. The IC uses a stored model of the old cell's voltage-to-capacity curve, and the new cell's curve doesn't match it yet. Percentage will stabilise after two or three complete discharge-charge cycles. Do not top up frequently during this period — partial cycles prevent the IC from building an accurate full-range reference.
