Fits Opticon PHL-7112, PHL-7114, PHL-7142, PHL-7214 and 17 other models; replaces OEM part BP05-000500.
3.7V 2200mAh Li-ion cell delivers the voltage and capacity the PHL-7112 scan engine and wireless radio require for a full shift.
Connector seats straight into the battery door slot with the contact pins facing the scanner body; locking tab aligns vertical.
We ran the cell through 15 charge cycles in a PHL-7112 cradle; BMS accepted the handshake on first insert with no dock faults.
Before deploying to a shift, place the scanner in its cradle for one complete charge cycle — the combined scan trigger and radio inrush can trip the BMS on first heavy use if the cell enters at minimum voltage.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Opticon PHL-7112 / PHL-7114 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP05-000500)

This 3.7V 2200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Opticon PHL-7112, PHL-7114, PHL-7142, and PHL-7214 handheld barcode scanners, plus 17 additional PHL-series models. It matches the original BP05-000500 footprint and connector, so the swap takes under a minute. Capacity is 2200mAh (8.14Wh) — identical to the factory specification.

  • PHL-7100 series compatibility: The PHL-7112, PHL-7114, PHL-7142, and PHL-7214 all run the same 3.7V power rail, share the same connector pinout, and use the same BMS handshake protocol — that is why a single cell covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-and-transmit bursts on the PHL-7112 bench unit. The BMS held steady across both the laser trigger inrush and the concurrent Wi-Fi polling load, with no low-voltage cutoff events during sustained high-frequency scanning.
  • First-shift cradle charge: After installing the new pack, seat the scanner in its charging cradle for a complete charge cycle before putting it on the pick floor. The scan trigger draws its highest inrush current when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged cell prevents a false BMS trip during the first burst of the shift.

Cradle showing a charging error on a brand-new pack

Charging docks on the PHL series use contact resistance to verify a valid pack before starting the charge cycle. If the contacts on the new battery or the cradle bay are slightly oxidised or dirty, the dock reads an open circuit and flags a fault instead of charging. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle slot with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly until it clicks. If the error clears, run one full charge cycle before deploying the unit.

Scanner losing wireless connection mid-shift during rapid scan bursts

The PHL-7112 fires the scan trigger and transmits the decoded data over the wireless link almost simultaneously — that combined inrush can pull the cell voltage down sharply if the pack is aged or partially discharged. A voltage sag below the radio module's minimum rail causes the wireless stack to drop its association before reconnecting seconds later. This becomes more frequent as the shift progresses and the cell drains toward its lower threshold. Starting each shift with a full charge keeps the cell voltage high enough to handle both loads without sag-induced disconnects.

Frequently Asked Questions

The PHL-7112 scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I swapped the battery — what's wrong?

The laser or imager module needs a minimum supply voltage to fire reliably, and a new pack shipped in storage state may sit just above the BMS floor — not low enough to be refused, but too low to drive the scan engine at full power. Place the scanner in the cradle and charge it fully before attempting to scan. Once the cell reaches 4.1–4.2V, the scan engine will power correctly and reads will resume.

My scanner feels noticeably warm after a full warehouse shift — is that a battery issue?

Sustained scanning combined with constant wireless polling generates continuous draw through the cell, and the compact PHL housing has limited airflow to shed that heat. It is normal for the pack surface to reach 35–40°C under that load. If the housing becomes too hot to hold comfortably, the cell may be venting heat from an internal fault — remove it from service, let it cool on a non-flammable surface, and inspect the contacts for swelling before reuse.

The new battery seems to run the scanner for a noticeably shorter shift than the old one did — why?

A new Li-ion cell typically needs two to three full charge-discharge cycles before it reaches rated capacity. If the pack was charged once and put straight into heavy rotation, the first few shifts will feel shorter than expected. Run full cradle charges with normal scan-and-transmit use for three consecutive shifts, then reassess endurance. If shift length is still well below what the original pack delivered at its best, check that the cradle is delivering a full charge — a dock with worn contacts may terminate early and leave the cell at 80% instead of 100%.
