Fits OTIS 2000 emergency lighting units, replaces OEM part number FFA718B1 and FFA718B1-W.
6V, 2000mAh nickel-cadmium cell delivers 12Wh to sustain emergency exit illumination during mains failure.
Battery slides into the vertical slot with connector pins facing downward; no locking tab required.
We bench-tested this Ni-CD pack on a 2000 series charger — float voltage settled at 7.2V within four hours, BMS accepted full load without cutoff.
Perform a manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the full rated duration — this confirms the cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register new cell capacity before your next compliance audit.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

OTIS 2000 / Emergency Power Supply ECU 2 — 6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (FFA718B1)

This is a 6V, 2000mAh nickel-cadmium replacement cell for the OTIS 2000 emergency lighting unit and Emergency Power Supply ECU 2. It fits fittings that reference OEM part numbers FFA718B1 and FFA718B1-W. This battery maintains backup illumination in elevator cabs and emergency exit routes during mains failure.

  • OTIS 2000 and ECU 2 compatibility: Both units share the same 6V NiCd cell format, connector pitch, and float charge voltage. Either fitting accepts this cell without modification to the charge circuit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full mains-fail simulation. The charge controller accepted the cell, completed its trickle charge phase, and the fitting advanced to green status within the expected window. BMS cutoff did not trigger during load.
  • First test cycle after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. NiCd cells shipped from storage carry a partial charge. Running one complete test cycle lets the charge controller register actual cell capacity before the next scheduled compliance inspection.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed NiCd cell does not arrive at full capacity. Storage self-discharge and the absence of a conditioning cycle both reduce available energy on the first test. The fitting's charge controller needs one complete charge-discharge cycle to measure actual cell capacity. Run a full manual test within 24 hours of installation, allow the fitting to recharge completely, then re-test — duration performance improves substantially on the second cycle.

Charge indicator staying red after confirmed good installation

The charge controller in these fittings uses float voltage to determine cell state. A cell that has been in storage long enough may present a terminal voltage outside the controller's acceptance window, causing the fault LED to hold even when the cell is physically sound. Leave the fitting connected to mains for 12–24 hours — the trickle charge will bring cell voltage into the float acceptance band and the indicator should advance to green. If the fault LED persists beyond 24 hours, measure cell voltage directly; a healthy NiCd cell at float should read at or above 6.0V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My OTIS 2000 passes the press-test but dims noticeably after a couple of minutes — is the new battery faulty?

The cell is not faulty. NiCd cells discharged during shipping and storage deliver reduced capacity on the very first activation. The charge controller has not yet completed a full conditioning cycle, so available energy runs low before the rated duration ends. Fit the battery, allow 24 hours on mains charge, then run one complete test cycle — capacity reaches rated output by the second full test.

The fitting still shows a fault LED two days after I replaced the battery and confirmed the connections are correct — what's causing it?

Some OTIS ECU 2 fittings latch the fault LED in firmware and do not clear it automatically when a new cell is detected. The cell voltage and charge state may be perfectly normal. Locate the manual reset procedure in the fitting's service label — on most units this is a long press of the test button (typically 10 seconds) with mains power applied. After reset, allow the fitting to complete a full charge cycle before checking indicator status.

The old battery case was visibly swollen when I removed it — could that damage the fitting's charge circuit?

Swelling in NiCd cells in these fittings is caused by years of continuous trickle charge at elevated ambient temperature inside the fitting enclosure. It is a cell failure, not a charge circuit fault. Before installing the replacement, inspect the charge board contacts for corrosion or discolouration from electrolyte vapour — clean any residue with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry fully. Once clean, install the new cell and confirm the fitting reaches green status within 24 hours.
