The CF-19 BIOS reads health data stored in the outgoing cell's EEPROM. This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual chemistry. The gauge IC was trained on the old, degraded cell and its voltage-to-capacity curve no longer maps correctly — so it reports 25% while the real cell voltage has already dropped below the safe discharge floor. Under full CPU and display load, voltage sags faster than the uncalibrated gauge expects and the BIOS triggers an emergency shutdown. Two full discharge and charge cycles recalibrate the IC against actual cell behaviour. After calibration, the cutoff should not occur above 5% reported charge.
