Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Pentax 29518 / 38403 / 46607 / 52030 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This 7.4V, 2600mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack across multiple Pentax survey and measurement instrument models, including the 29518, 38403, 46607, and 52030. It delivers consistent voltage to the instrument's processor, display, and sensor modules. Dimensions are 70.40 × 38.70 × 20.50mm — verify your bay clearance before installing.
- Cross-model compatibility: These Pentax instrument models share the same voltage rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell configuration covers the full group without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through instrument power-on, sensor initialisation, and sustained logging cycles. The BMS handled the current spike at probe power-up without tripping into cutoff, and held stable voltage throughout the logging session.
- Post-install calibration cycle: After fitting this battery, run a full calibration sequence through the instrument menu before field deployment. The instrument maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session even when the pack is fully charged.
BMS lockout after the instrument sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly in storage. If the pack drops below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters a protective sleep state and blocks charge input — the instrument won't power on and the charger shows no activity. This isn't a dead battery; it's a protection circuit doing its job. Most chargers recover the pack by applying a low-current pre-charge pulse for 10–20 minutes before transitioning to full charge. If your charger has a "recovery" or "wake" mode, activate it first.
Instrument shuts down mid-measurement with the battery indicator still showing charge
This happens when sustained sensor load pulls the voltage low enough to trip the BMS undervoltage cutoff — even if the display was reading 40–50% moments before. The percentage indicator in these instruments is voltage-threshold based, not coulomb-counted, so it can look optimistic under load. The fix is to charge the pack fully before any extended field session and confirm the charger reached a termination voltage of at least 8.4V before disconnecting.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Pentax instrument powers on fine but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to the PC — is this a battery fault?
Combined sensor-active and USB communication draw can push total current above what a partially charged pack delivers without a voltage sag. The BMS reads the sag as an undervoltage event and cuts output. This isn't a defective battery — it's a threshold trip under combined load. Charge the pack fully to 8.4V termination before running USB transfer sessions, and avoid transferring data while a probe module is also active.
The battery percentage on my Pentax instrument jumps around erratically after installing a new pack — sometimes it drops 20% in seconds then recovers.
The instrument's voltage-threshold indicator is recalibrating to the new cell's discharge curve. Old, degraded cells have a flatter voltage curve that the instrument learned over time; a fresh pack has a steeper initial drop before levelling out, which confuses the display logic. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles in normal use and the readings will stabilise. If the jumping persists after three cycles, check that the battery contacts in the bay are clean and making full contact.
My Pentax survey instrument won't charge after being stored unused for several months — the charger just sits there with no indication light.
The pack has likely dropped below the BMS recovery threshold, around 2.5V per cell, and entered sleep mode. The charger sees too low a voltage to begin standard CC/CV charging and stays inactive. Use a charger with a low-current pre-charge or "recovery" function — this trickle-charges the cells up to approximately 3.0V per cell, at which point the BMS wakes and allows normal charging to resume. If your charger lacks this mode, a universal Li-ion charger set to recovery mode will work.
