The charge IC pushes the same current into that higher resistance, generating more heat at the cell surface during the constant-current phase. This is normal on cycles one through three and typically settles as impedance drops. If the phone remains noticeably warm beyond the third full charge, check that the battery connector is fully seated — a poor contact forces the charge IC to work harder and raises heat further.
