Fits Philips TD9601 cordless phone handset, replaces OEM part PT6MXJ.
3.6V, 1500mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers full talk and standby capacity for this DECT handset model.
Connector slides vertically into handset battery slot with single locking tab; no polarity risk on insertion.
Bench testing on TD9601 base showed steady voltage acceptance and zero charging faults across five charge cycles.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Philips TD9601 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (PT6MXJ)

This 3.6V, 1500mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the OEM pack in the Philips TD9601 cordless DECT handset. It slots into the handset battery compartment and connects to the same charging contacts used by the original. Capacity is rated at 5.4Wh and dimensions are 49.80 × 42.90 × 14.40mm.

  • TD9601 handset fit: The TD9601 runs a single-cell Ni-MH pack at 3.6V nominal. The connector orientation and physical footprint match the OEM cell, so no modification is needed to seat this pack in the compartment.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a Ni-MH-compatible analyser. The cell accepted a full charge without thermal event, and the capacity reading landed within spec across repeated cycles.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH cordless packs: After installing, place the handset in the base station and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells shipped in storage state need a slow, uninterrupted initial charge to reach rated capacity — a short top-up charge will not do it.

Range drop on the TD9601 after a battery swap

DECT handsets regulate transmit power, but the RF stage still draws a sharp current burst during each transmission window. A Ni-MH cell that hasn't been fully conditioned shows higher internal resistance, which causes the voltage rail to sag under that RF load. The handset interprets low voltage as a weak signal and the effective range drops noticeably. Running two or three full charge-discharge cycles brings internal resistance down and the range returns to normal.

Base station showing no-charge light on a new Ni-MH pack

Philips TD9601 base stations use a delta-V detection circuit to confirm a Ni-MH cell is accepting charge. A battery that has self-discharged below roughly 3.0V during storage may register as absent or faulty to that circuit. Place the handset in the base and wait — most base stations will trickle-charge a low cell back above the detection threshold within 30 to 60 minutes before switching to full charge. If the error light persists beyond that point, check the handset contacts are clean and the handset is fully seated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Talk time on the TD9601 is much shorter than the original battery even after a full overnight charge — is something wrong with the replacement?

Nothing is wrong. Ni-MH cells arrive in a partial storage state and need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. Each cycle, the cell's usable capacity steps up toward the 1500mAh spec. Run the handset until the low-battery warning sounds, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat — talk time should reach its rated level by cycle four or five.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Some Philips DECT handsets drop their pairing record when power is completely removed from the handset, which happens during a battery swap. The base station stores the pairing, but the handset needs to re-register. Press and hold the paging or find-handset button on the base for five seconds, then use the handset menu to run a new registration using the base PIN — the default is usually 0000. Once registered, the handset reconnects and operates normally.

The battery drains completely overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — what causes that?

This is almost always a contact issue, not a faulty cell. If the handset is not fully seated, the charging pins on the base don't make a solid connection, and the handset runs on standby draw from the battery instead of being topped up. Remove the handset, wipe the charging contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth, reseat the handset firmly, and check that the charge indicator light activates. If the light comes on and stays on, the connection is made and overnight drain will stop.
