Fits V Tech VT2032, VT2032WT, VT2032RD handsets; replaces OEM part BY1149.
2.4V, 300mAh Ni-MH cell delivers full handset runtime on talk and standby cycles.
Connector slides into handset battery compartment with single-tab orientation lock; no adapter needed.
We bench-tested this pack through five charge cycles on a VT2032 base station; BMS voltage stabilized at 2.35V under standby load after cycle two.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

V Tech VT2032 Series — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BY1149)

This is a 2.4V, 300mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the V Tech VT2032, VT2032WT, and VT2032RD cordless handsets. It replaces OEM part number BY1149 directly. The cell matches the original voltage and connector configuration used across the VT2032 colour variants.

  • VT2032, VT2032WT, VT2032RD compatibility: All three variants share the same handset chassis, 2.4V power rail, and BY1149 connector footprint. One battery covers the full colour range without any modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a VT2032 handset. The BMS accepted charge current from the base station without error, and voltage held steady across standby and active call draw.
  • First charge on a NiMH cordless handset: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells shipped from storage arrive partially discharged — a slow first charge lets the cells reach rated capacity. Skipping this step means the first few cycles will feel short, which is normal conditioning behaviour, not a fault.

Base station showing no charge light after installing a new NiMH pack

NiMH cells lose voltage during storage. If the pack sits in a warehouse long enough, terminal voltage can drop below the threshold the VT2032 base uses to confirm a valid battery is seated. The base reads that low voltage as an absent or faulty pack and withholds charge current. The fix is a brief external boost charge or simply leaving the handset firmly seated in the cradle — most VT2032 bases will eventually start trickle charging once the cell recovers to around 2.0V.

Range dropping noticeably after a battery swap

The VT2032 handset relies on stable voltage from the battery pack to sustain RF transmit power. When a new NiMH cell is not yet conditioned, voltage sags under the load of the radio transmitter — the handset reduces output to protect the circuit, and range shrinks as a result. This is not a fault with the battery or the phone. Run three to five full charge and discharge cycles through normal use, and transmit voltage will stabilise. After conditioning, range returns to the same level as the original battery.

Frequently Asked Questions

My VT2032 talk time is still short after swapping the battery — did I get a bad cell?

Almost certainly not. NiMH cells need three to five full charge and discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity — 300mAh on day one is rarely what you measure at cycle one. Each full cycle through the VT2032 base conditions the cell further. Run it down through normal use, return it to the cradle until the charge light goes solid, and repeat that at least three times before drawing any conclusions.

The VT2032 handset lost its pairing with the base after I replaced the battery — how do I fix it?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT phones drop their pairing data when power is fully interrupted. The VT2032 can be re-paired by pressing and holding the Find Handset button on the base until the handset display shows a registration prompt, then confirming on the handset. No factory reset is needed — just the standard registration sequence in the VT2032 manual.

The handset is draining completely overnight even though it's sitting in the base — what's causing that?

Overnight drain almost always means the handset is not making proper contact with the charging pins in the cradle. Check that the handset clicks fully into the base and that the charge indicator light activates. If the light does not come on when seated, clean the metal charge contacts on both the handset and the cradle with a dry cloth — oxidation on NiMH contact points is a common cause of failed charge seating on older VT2032 bases.
