Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Physio-Control Lifepak 6 / 6S Series — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (LP6200 / 110062 / EE120007)
This is a 12V 3000mAh (36Wh) Ni-MH replacement battery for the Physio-Control Lifepak 6, Lifepak 6S, and Lifepak 7 defibrillators. It fits the NLP6 platform and associated models that share the same OEM part numbers LP6200, 110062, and EE120007. Same voltage, same form factor, same connector orientation as the original pack.
- Lifepak 6 / 6S / 7 platform fit: These models share a common 12V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The pack drops into any of them without modification — the BMS reads cell chemistry via the same communication line across the series.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge, full load discharge, and charge again on Lifepak-series hardware. The BMS accepted the cell chemistry, completed the charge handshake without fault codes, and the device passed its internal self-test on the second cycle.
- Post-install self-test cycle: After fitting this battery, let the Lifepak complete its full power-on self-test without interrupting or powering down the unit mid-sequence. The BMS runs a verification routine at startup — cutting power during this window writes a false battery fault that sticks until the device completes a clean reboot with an uninterrupted cycle.
Low battery alarm on the Lifepak immediately after a confirmed full charge
The Lifepak's BMS applies a fixed voltage and internal resistance threshold during self-test — calibrated to an aged OEM cell profile. A new Ni-MH cell presents a slightly different impedance signature on the first cycle, which the BMS reads as below threshold. This is not a fault with the battery. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle and the BMS recalibrates its baseline to the new cell. The alarm clears once the pack holds above 12.5V under load during the self-test window.
Lifepak 6 not completing boot sequence after battery sat in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day in storage. A pack that has sat for several months can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 10V for a 12V pack — at which point the device refuses to boot rather than risk a depleted-cell defibrillation attempt. Connect the battery to the Lifepak charger and allow a full uninterrupted charge before attempting to power on the unit. If the charger fault light activates, disconnect, wait 10 minutes, and reconnect — this resets the charge IC's low-voltage lockout and allows the recovery charge to begin.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Lifepak 6 shows a low battery warning immediately after I installed a freshly charged replacement — is the battery faulty?
It is not faulty. The Lifepak BMS measures internal resistance during self-test and compares it against a threshold set for an aged OEM cell. A new Ni-MH pack has a lower impedance signature on its first cycle, which the BMS flags as non-compliant. Run one full charge-discharge cycle on the device and the BMS updates its baseline. The alarm should clear once the pack holds above 12.5V under self-test load.
The charge indicator on the Lifepak charger won't reach 100% on the first charge of the new battery — is the charger seeing the wrong chemistry?
The charger's charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it detects a new or deeply rested cell. This is normal behaviour — it is not misreading the chemistry. The indicator will plateau below 100% on the first charge as the IC runs a stepped topping sequence. Allow the charge cycle to complete fully without interrupting it, then run one discharge through the device before the next charge. The indicator reaches 100% reliably from the second cycle onward.
The Lifepak 6 shut down unexpectedly mid-use within the first few uses of the new battery — what's causing that?
New Ni-MH cells have not yet reached full electrochemical capacity in the first 5–10 cycles. The Lifepak's load profile during active use draws more current than standby, which can push a new cell's voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold before the state-of-charge indicator suggests it should. This is not a cell defect — it resolves as the pack conditions through repeated full cycles. Complete at least three full charge-discharge cycles on the device before relying on this battery for clinical use, and confirm the pack charges to 12.8–13.0V fully charged before each session.
