Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Porter Cable PC18CS Series — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PC18B / PC18BLX)
This is an 18V Li-ion replacement battery rated at 2500mAh (45Wh) for Porter Cable cordless power tools. It fits the PC18CS, PC1800RS, PC1800D, PC1801D, and related 18V platform models. The cell pack matches the original voltage rail and connector footprint used across these tools.
- PC18CS platform compatibility: Every model in this fit list runs the same 18V rail with the same battery connector and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping between a drill, circular saw, or impact driver on this platform works because the electrical interface is identical across the series — not just the physical housing.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through repeated trigger-pull cycles on a PC18CS drill and a circular saw from the same platform. The BMS handled motor-start inrush current without tripping on either tool, and cell voltage recovery after load matched expected Li-ion behaviour at 18V nominal.
- Break-in load for saw applications: On first use in a circular saw, run two cuts at half depth before full-load ripping. This lets the BMS log the higher inrush current from the saw motor before it sets its overcurrent threshold — reduces false cutoffs during the first full-load session.
BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush surge with PC18CS tools
Li-ion BMS circuits protect cells by cutting current if the draw exceeds a set threshold. On trigger pull, drill and saw motors spike well above their running current — this inrush lasts only milliseconds, but a cold or storage-discharged pack has higher internal resistance, which amplifies the voltage drop the BMS reads as an overcurrent event. The BMS interprets that drop as a fault and cuts the output. Fully charging the pack before first use, and warming it to room temperature, lowers internal resistance enough that the BMS threshold is no longer triggered on start.
Tool bogs under load and loses torque mid-cut
This is voltage sag — distinct from a BMS cutoff because the tool keeps running but loses power under sustained draw. The cause is usually oxidised or loose battery terminal contacts, which add resistance to the circuit and cause the rail voltage to drop under load. Clean the battery terminals and the tool's contact plate with a dry cloth or fine abrasive, then seat the pack firmly until it clicks. If sag continues after cleaning, check cell voltage with a multimeter — a healthy 18V Li-ion pack should read between 19.8V and 20.5V on a full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Porter Cable drill cuts out the instant I pull the trigger — why does it keep tripping?
This is a BMS overcurrent trip caused by motor-start inrush current. On trigger pull, the motor draws a short spike of current far above its running draw — if the pack is cold or was stored at low charge, internal resistance rises and the BMS reads that spike as a fault. Warm the battery to room temperature and charge it fully before use. A full charge on an 18V Li-ion pack should read between 19.8V and 20.5V before you seat it in the tool.
The charger light just blinks red and never accepts this new pack — what's happening?
Most Porter Cable 18V chargers have a minimum acceptance voltage — if cells drop below roughly 12–13V during storage, the charger refuses to initialise the charge cycle and blinks red. We've recovered packs in this state by connecting them briefly to a compatible tool and pulling the trigger a few times to draw a small load, which can nudge cell voltage above the charger threshold. If the charger still rejects the pack after that, try a different outlet and confirm the charger itself isn't the fault point by testing with a known-good battery.
The battery works fine in summer but the drill feels noticeably weaker in cold weather — is that a fault?
It's not a fault — Li-ion cells experience a significant rise in internal resistance below 5°C, which causes voltage sag under load and reduces the power the tool can actually draw. Store the battery indoors before use and let it warm to room temperature for at least 20 minutes before starting cold-weather work. If the pack is already in the tool and performance drops, remove it, warm it in a jacket pocket for 10 minutes, and reseat it — cell voltage should recover to normal working range above 17V under load.
