A pack left in a cold garage from October to March can drop below the charger's acceptance voltage threshold — typically around 12–13V on an 18V pack — and the charger flags it as a fault rather than entering charge mode. The fix is a short "wake" charge: place the pack in the charger, wait 30 seconds, remove it, then reinsert. Some chargers will then detect the cells and begin a trickle cycle. If the fault light persists after three attempts, measure pack voltage with a multimeter — any reading below 10V indicates cell damage from deep discharge.
