Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Promax 8 Premium / SAT Hunter — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (CB-076)
This 7.4V, 3400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the CB-076 pack in the Promax 8 Premium, 8 Premium CATV Analyser, and SAT Hunter field instruments. All three models share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. Capacity figure is taken from the product specification — 25.16Wh total energy.
- 8 Premium, CATV Analyser, and SAT Hunter compatibility: These instruments share a common voltage rail at 7.4V nominal and use the same physical connector with identical BMS handshake logic. One pack covers all three without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the instrument's power-on sequence and monitored the BMS response during probe initialisation. The pack held voltage without tripping cutoff during the current spike that fires when the RF front-end powers up.
- Field instrument calibration after pack swap: After installing, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment. The instrument maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.
BMS cutoff during RF probe or sensor initialisation on the 8 Premium
When the 8 Premium powers up its RF front-end, it pulls a short, sharp current spike — typically lasting under 200ms. A worn or deeply discharged cell can sag below the BMS undervoltage threshold during that spike, triggering an immediate cutoff. The instrument then appears to shut down spontaneously at what looks like a healthy charge level. A fresh pack with full cell capacity handles the spike without voltage sag, keeping the BMS in normal operating range throughout initialisation.
Readings resetting or dropping mid-session during a continuous logging run
Sustained sensor load during a long logging session draws consistent current, unlike the brief spike at startup. If cell internal resistance has climbed — common in aged packs — voltage can sag progressively under that steady draw until the BMS triggers a protective cutoff, resetting the active measurement session. The instrument may reboot and return to the home screen mid-log with no error message. Replace the pack and verify open-circuit cell voltage sits at or above 7.4V before starting a multi-point logging run.

Frequently Asked Questions
My SAT Hunter won't recognise the new battery after it sat in the case for months — the screen stays blank.
When a Li-ion pack sits unused for an extended period, cell voltage can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 6.0V for a 7.4V nominal pack — and the BMS enters sleep mode, refusing to communicate with the instrument. Connect the pack to the OEM charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on the instrument; most chargers apply a low trickle current that wakes the BMS once voltage climbs above the recovery threshold. If the charger LED stays off or shows a fault, try a five-minute charge, disconnect, reconnect, and repeat — this can kick the BMS out of lockout. Once the pack reaches approximately 7.0V, the instrument should recognise it normally.
The 8 Premium powers on fine but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to a connected laptop.
USB data transfer adds a second simultaneous load on top of the instrument's active draw — the USB port, display backlight, and processing all run concurrently during a file transfer. On a degraded pack, that combined draw causes a voltage sag the BMS interprets as a fault condition and cuts power. We saw this behaviour on the bench with packs showing elevated internal resistance. A fresh CB-076 pack at full charge maintains voltage above the 6.0V cutoff floor throughout a sustained combined load — charge the replacement fully before attempting a transfer session.
The battery percentage on the 8 Premium CATV Analyser jumps around or reads incorrectly every time I reboot the unit.
The instrument's fuel gauge recalibrates its voltage-to-percentage mapping at each boot based on resting cell voltage. A new pack has slightly different resting voltage characteristics than a worn original, so the displayed percentage can appear inconsistent for the first few cycles — jumping from, say, 80% to 60% between reboots with no actual discharge. Run two or three full charge and discharge cycles through normal instrument use and the indicator will stabilise as the firmware learns the new cell's voltage curve. After the third cycle, percentage readings at rest should remain within a few points of actual state of charge.
