Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Puritan Bennett Achieva PSO2 — 12V Sealed Lead Acid Replacement Battery
This is a 12V, 2300mAh (27.6Wh) sealed lead-acid replacement battery for the Puritan Bennett Achieva PSO2 portable oxygen concentrator. It fits directly into the Achieva PSO2 battery compartment and restores the unit's ability to deliver supplemental oxygen away from a mains power source. Voltage and capacity match the original Puritan Bennett specification.
- Achieva PSO2 platform fit: The PSO2 runs a 12V SLA power rail with a BMS that validates cell chemistry and internal resistance at startup. A mismatched voltage or chemistry type will cause the device to flag a battery fault and refuse to enter operating mode. This cell meets both the voltage rail and the SLA chemistry requirement the onboard BMS checks against.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the PSO2 power-on self-test sequence and confirmed the BMS handshake completed without a fault flag. The device advanced through its full startup cycle and reached normal operating state. Internal resistance stayed within the range the PSO2 controller accepts across the test cycles.
- Post-installation self-test: After fitting this battery, let the Achieva PSO2 complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The BMS runs a verification routine at boot, and cutting power mid-sequence locks in a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot. Do not press any keys or disconnect power while the startup indicators are cycling.
Why the Achieva PSO2 rejects a new battery on first boot
The PSO2's BMS uses a learned resistance baseline to decide whether a battery is fit for clinical use. A brand-new SLA cell has a slightly higher internal resistance than a broken-in one, and the first-boot check can sit right at the acceptance threshold. If the device flags a fault on the first power-on, perform one full charge cycle — charge to 100%, run the device until it signals low battery, then recharge fully. After that conditioning cycle, internal resistance drops into the range the BMS accepts reliably. This is normal SLA behaviour, not a defective cell.
Charge indicator stalls below 100% on first charge
The Achieva PSO2 charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it detects a new or cold cell, which slows the final absorption stage and can leave the indicator reading 90–95% for an extended period. This is the charge controller throttling input voltage as the cell approaches full charge — it is working correctly. Do not interrupt the charge at this point. Let the cycle run to natural termination; the indicator will reach 100% once the absorption stage completes at approximately 13.5V across the terminals.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Achieva PSO2 is alarming low battery straight after a full charge — the replacement battery is brand new. What's wrong?
The PSO2's BMS compares the new cell against a stored resistance baseline calibrated to a cycled OEM battery. A fresh SLA cell has slightly elevated internal resistance, which the BMS reads as low capacity even when charge is full. Run one complete charge-discharge-recharge cycle before trusting the alarm reading. After that first conditioning cycle, the BMS recalibrates and the false alarm stops.
The Achieva PSO2 won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat unused for a few months — is the cell dead?
SLA cells self-discharge in storage, and if voltage drops below roughly 10.5V the PSO2's BMS enters a locked state and won't initialise the device. Connect the charger and leave it for a full charge cycle — most SLA charge controllers include a recovery mode that brings a deeply discharged cell back above the BMS recovery threshold before switching to normal charge. If the charge indicator shows any activity within 30 minutes, the cell is recovering. If there is no indicator response at all after an hour, check charger output voltage at the connector.
The Achieva PSO2 shuts off unexpectedly during use even though the battery showed a good charge level beforehand — what causes this?
In the first 10 cycles, a new SLA cell has less available capacity under the sustained load the PSO2 draws during active oxygen delivery, and voltage can sag enough to trip the device's low-voltage cutoff before the charge indicator suggests it should. The device cuts power at the BMS protection threshold to prevent cell damage — this is a cutoff, not a fault. Capacity stabilises cycle by cycle as the cell forms. Track how far into each session the cutoff occurs; if it is pushing later with each cycle, the cell is forming normally.
