Fits Radio Shack 23-193 and replaces OEM part numbers P-P501, P-P504, P-P508, P-P510, HHR-P505, and KX-TCA14 battery packs.
3.6V 1300mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers talk time and standby hold on the original handset without loss of wireless range through the home or office.
Connector seats vertically into the handset battery slot with a single locking tab that snaps downward when inserted fully — matches the original pack orientation.
We bench-tested this cell on a Radio Shack base station charger; the BMS accepted the voltage threshold immediately and showed steady green without fault codes during charge cycle.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Radio Shack 23-193 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (P-P501)

This is a 3.6V, 1300mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Radio Shack cordless phone handsets. It fits the 23-193 along with models 43-1086, 43-1087, 43-1088, and over 150 additional compatible handsets. Physical dimensions are 50.57 x 42.47 x 14.35mm — same footprint as the original pack.

  • Cross-compatible handset lineup: These Radio Shack models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector orientation, and 3.6V charging rail. The base station charges at a fixed voltage, so all handsets in this family accept the same Ni-MH pack without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through charge and discharge on a 23-193 handset. The BMS accepted charge from the base on the first placement and voltage climbed steadily to 4.2V at full charge with no error signalling.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before use. Ni-MH cells shipped in storage-discharged state need a slow initial charge to reach rated 1300mAh capacity — skipping this results in shorter talk time on the first several cycles.

Talk time shorter than expected after a new battery install

Ni-MH cells do not deliver full rated capacity on cycle one. The electrochemical structure needs three to five full charge-discharge cycles before capacity stabilises at the rated 1300mAh. If talk time feels short immediately after install, that is normal — not a defective cell. Run the handset until it signals low battery, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat three to five times.

Base station showing no charge or error light after battery swap

Batteries stored in a warehouse can self-discharge to below 3.0V. Some base stations will not initiate a charge cycle if the pack voltage is too low at first contact. Remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, and reseat it firmly — this resets the charge detection circuit on most Radio Shack base models. If the error persists, a brief trickle charge from a standalone Ni-MH charger at 50–100mA will bring the cell above the 3.2V acceptance threshold the base requires.

Frequently Asked Questions

My handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Some DECT cordless phones drop their pairing registration when power is fully removed from the handset, which happens the moment the old battery comes out. The base station stores the pairing key, but the handset needs to re-register. On most Radio Shack DECT models, press and hold the page or find button on the base for 5–10 seconds while the handset is powered on to trigger a fresh pairing handshake.

Battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what's wrong?

This is a standby draw issue, not a battery fault. The handset needs full contact with the charging pins in the base cradle — even a small tilt or debris on the contacts breaks the charging circuit and the handset runs entirely off battery overnight. Remove the handset, clean the metal contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth, and reseat it until it clicks flush.

Range dropped noticeably after the battery swap — calls cut out further from the base than before.

Reduced range is almost always a voltage sag problem. When a Ni-MH pack hasn't completed its conditioning cycles, voltage drops sharply under the RF transmit load, and the handset reduces transmit power to compensate. Complete three to five full charge-discharge cycles first. If range is still short after conditioning, check that the battery contacts inside the handset are clean and making firm contact — a weak connection adds resistance and accelerates voltage sag.
