Fits Radio Shack cordless phone model 23271 and replaces OEM part 23-935.
3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH battery restores talk time and standby duration on the handset.
Connector slides onto the battery contacts with a locking tab — orientation is keyed.
We charged this pack on a standard DECT base charger; the BMS accepted voltage immediately.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Radio Shack 23271 / 23295 / 26305 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (23-935)

This is a 3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Radio Shack cordless phone handsets. It fits the 23271, 23295, 26305, 43682, and seven additional models sharing the same OEM part number 23-935. Drop this in when the original pack no longer holds enough charge to get through a normal day of calls and standby.

  • Multi-model fit — 23271 through 43682 series: These handsets share the same 3.6V three-cell NiMH pack, connector pinout, and base-station charge circuit. One battery number covers the full range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a NiMH-compatible analyzer. The BMS accepted charge correctly and voltage held steady at 3.6V nominal across the test window.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — a quick top-up will leave the pack undercharged and talk time will appear short.

Base station showing no charge or flashing error light on a new NiMH pack

NiMH batteries lose voltage during storage. If the pack voltage drops far enough, the base station's charge controller may not recognise it as a valid battery and will refuse to start a charge cycle. This is a threshold detection issue, not a faulty battery. Some Radio Shack bases require the pack to be above roughly 3.0V before the charge IC will engage. If the error persists after seating the handset, remove it for 30 seconds and reseat firmly — this resets the handset's charge negotiation with the base.

Range drops noticeably mid-call after the battery swap

A fresh NiMH pack that hasn't completed its first full conditioning cycle will sag under RF transmit load. DECT radios draw a burst of current each time the handset transmits, and an undercharged NiMH pack can't hold voltage steady through those bursts. The handset interprets the voltage drop as low battery and reduces transmit power, cutting range. Run three full charge-and-use cycles — charge to full, use until the low-battery indicator appears, then charge again to 100% — and range will stabilise at rated levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Talk time is much shorter than expected even after charging overnight — is the battery faulty?

Not faulty — NiMH cordless phone batteries typically need three to five full charge-and-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. After the first overnight charge, the pack delivers partial capacity. Use the handset until the low-battery indicator appears, return it to the base for a full 16-hour charge, and repeat. By cycle three, talk time will be noticeably longer.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Some DECT handsets drop their pairing data when power is fully interrupted during a battery swap. This is a firmware behaviour, not a battery issue. Re-register the handset through the base station's pairing or registration menu — on most Radio Shack models, hold the Find Handset button on the base for five seconds while the handset is powered on and within one metre of the base.

The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what causes that?

The base station charges through two contacts on the bottom of the handset. If those contacts are dirty or the handset isn't fully seated, the base shows a charge indicator but no current actually flows. Clean the charge contacts on both the handset and the base cradle with a dry cloth, press the handset firmly until it clicks into position, and confirm the charge light stays solid rather than flashing.
