Fits Rainin EDP Plus pipette, replaces OEM battery part numbers RA 6100-080 and RA 17003232.
2.4V Ni-MH cell rated 500mAh delivers steady voltage to the motor and electronic control system throughout pipetting cycles.
Connector slides into the battery slot with a single locking tab; orientation is marked on the housing.
We bench tested this cell in the EDP Plus charge cradle — the BMS accepts the new pack after one full charge cycle without fault codes.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test without interruption; the medical control logic verifies new cell chemistry on startup, and interrupting this sequence triggers a false low-battery alarm that only clears after a full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Rainin EDP Plus / EDP1 — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (RA 6100-080)

This is a 2.4V 500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Rainin EDP Plus and EDP1 electronic pipettes. It fits the OEM part numbers RA 6100-080 and RA 17003232. The battery powers the pipette's drive motor and electronic control system across liquid handling and sample preparation workflows.

  • EDP Plus, EDP1, and Pipette EDP compatibility: All three models share the same 2.4V Ni-MH cell format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake. The same battery services the full EDP line without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the EDP platform. The BMS accepted the cell, completed its verification sequence, and stepped through charge stages without fault flags.
  • Post-swap self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, allow the pipette to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The EDP platform runs a BMS verification check at startup — interrupting it before completion stores a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.

EDP Plus alarming low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge

The EDP Plus BMS compares the incoming cell's resting voltage against a threshold calibrated to a conditioned OEM cell. A fresh Ni-MH cell out of storage typically reads lower than that threshold even after a full charge cycle. The BMS treats this as an underperforming battery and raises the alarm. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle through the device charger — after that cycle, the resting voltage climbs to approximately 2.4V and the alarm clears.

Pipette will not power on after battery replacement

Ni-MH cells self-discharge in storage and can drop below the EDP's BMS recovery threshold — typically below 1.8V total — at which point the controller refuses to boot to protect downstream electronics. Place the battery in the charger for a full uninterrupted charge cycle before installing it. If the device still does not boot, check the charger output at the contacts: it should read between 2.8V and 3.0V DC under no load. A reading outside that range points to the charger, not the cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

My EDP Plus shows a low battery warning the moment I turn it on after charging — is the new battery faulty?

It is not faulty. Fresh Ni-MH cells carry a resting voltage below the threshold the EDP BMS expects from a conditioned cell, so the controller flags it immediately. Run one full charge-discharge cycle through the device charger without interrupting it. After that cycle the resting voltage stabilises and the low battery alarm stops appearing.

The pipette shuts off mid-use without any warning — this only started after fitting the replacement cell.

New Ni-MH cells have not yet formed their full capacity and sag harder under the motor's load profile in the first several cycles. The EDP's BMS interprets that voltage sag as a depleted cell and cuts power to protect the motor controller. Run the pipette through ten full charge-discharge cycles before clinical use — voltage sag under load reduces significantly after the cell is conditioned, and the mid-use shutdowns stop.

The charge indicator never reaches 100% on the first charge — it stops at around 80% and the light stays amber.

The EDP charger applies a conservative current limit on cells it has not yet profiled, which causes it to terminate early on the first cycle. This is normal charge IC behaviour with a new Ni-MH cell. Remove the battery, reinsert it, and start a second full charge cycle from the beginning. By the second or third charge the IC adjusts its termination point and the indicator reaches 100%.
