Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Ricoh Caplio 400G wide Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (DB-40)
This is a 3.7V, 1050mAh Li-ion cell that replaces the OEM DB-40 battery. It fits the Ricoh Caplio 400G wide, Caplio G3, Caplio G4, Caplio G4 wide, and six additional Caplio-series models. Same voltage, same connector, same form factor as the original.
- Caplio G-series compatibility: These models share the DB-40 footprint and a common 3.7V single-cell power rail. The BMS in each body reads cell voltage directly — no proprietary authentication chip, so a replacement cell with matching voltage and connector seats without handshake friction.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Caplio charging circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell on first insertion. Charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V, and the protection circuit tripped at the expected low-voltage cutoff without needing a forced discharge.
- First-cycle conditioning on Caplio bodies: Run one complete charge via the camera body or OEM charger before your first shoot. Some Caplio bodies need a full charge cycle from within the camera to calibrate the battery-remaining indicator to the new cell's discharge curve accurately.
Flash recycling slowing down before the battery indicator drops
The Caplio G-series flash capacitor draws a sharp recharge current burst after each shot. As a Li-ion cell ages or runs low, internal resistance rises and it can't deliver that burst cleanly. The camera body may still show two or three battery bars while the flash visibly lags. This isn't a camera fault — it's the cell's internal resistance limiting peak current output. Swap the battery when flash recycle time extends noticeably, even if the indicator hasn't hit red.
Battery percentage jumping erratically on the Caplio display
Ricoh's Caplio indicator maps voltage thresholds from the OEM cell's discharge curve. A new third-party cell discharges along a slightly different curve, so the indicator can jump from full to two bars and back within the same shoot. This is a calibration mismatch, not a defective cell. Run two or three full charge-discharge cycles through the camera body to let the BMS remap its thresholds. After conditioning, the display stabilises and tracks remaining charge accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Ricoh Caplio G4 shows a dead battery icon right after I insert a fully charged replacement DB-40 — what's happening?
The Caplio body performs a quick voltage check on insertion, and if the cell sat unused for a while it may read slightly below the camera's minimum acceptance threshold. Place the battery in the OEM charger or camera body and run a full charge cycle — even 15 minutes on charge is usually enough to push the voltage past the threshold. After that, the icon clears and the camera powers on normally. If it persists, check the contact pins on the battery and in the body for corrosion.
Shot count drops noticeably when shooting in cold weather with the new DB-40 cell — is the battery faulty?
It's not faulty. Li-ion cells deliver less usable capacity as temperature drops because ion mobility in the electrolyte slows down, raising internal resistance and compressing the discharge curve. The Caplio's flash, LCD, and image processor all draw from the same cell, so the effect is magnified in cold conditions. Keep the spare battery in an inside jacket pocket between shots to maintain cell temperature, and the shot count recovers close to rated performance.
The Caplio G3 powers on fine but the LCD goes dark and the camera shuts off mid-shoot — what causes this?
This is a voltage-sag shutdown. During burst shooting or sustained LCD-on use, the combined draw of the sensor, processor, and LCD pulls the cell voltage down sharply. If the cell is partially discharged, that sag can dip below the BMS cutoff threshold even though the battery indicator showed charge remaining. Charge the battery fully before a heavy shoot session and confirm the cell reaches 4.2V at charge termination — a cell that only reaches 4.1V at full charge has degraded and needs replacement.
