Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Roland FR-8x / FR-7x Series — 24V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BTY-FR / BP-24-45)
This is a 24V, 4500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Roland V-Accordion FR-8x, FR-8xb, FR-7x, FR-7xb, and seven additional FR-series models. It replaces OEM part numbers BTY-FR, FBC-7, and BP-24-45. The battery powers the instrument's digital sound engine, speakers, and MIDI electronics during live performance and practice.
- FR-8x and FR-7x compatibility: Both the 8x and 7x lines share the same 24V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake requirements. A single cell format covers both full-size and b-variant models without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge-discharge cycles on an FR-series unit and confirmed the BMS accepted full charge, communicated state-of-charge correctly to the instrument's display, and held voltage stable across the sound engine and speaker amp under simultaneous load.
- Pre-performance charging protocol: Ni-MH cells in the FR series are sensitive to partial-charge memory effect over time. Always bring this battery to a full charge before a live set — the accordion's DSP and speaker amplifier draw simultaneously, and a partially charged Ni-MH cell voltage sags faster under that combined load than a cell at full capacity.
Why the FR-8x powers off mid-performance without warning
The FR-8x runs a 24V rail shared across the DSP, MIDI engine, and speaker amplifier. When a degraded Ni-MH battery sags under peak draw — for example, during loud polyphonic passages — the rail voltage can dip below the instrument's minimum operating threshold. The BMS reads this as a fault condition and triggers a protective shutdown before the cells reverse-charge. This happens even when the battery indicator still shows partial charge, because the indicator reflects resting voltage, not loaded voltage.
FR-series battery indicator reads full but the instrument shuts down early
Ni-MH cells degrade unevenly across a pack — individual cells lose capacity at different rates. The on-board indicator measures pack voltage at rest, so a pack with one weak cell can read close to full until load is applied. Under the combined draw of the sound engine and amplifier, the weak cell collapses first and pulls the pack voltage down sharply. Replace the battery and after fitting, run a full charge cycle to 24V before relying on the indicator reading.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Roland FR-8x won't turn on at all after I charged the old battery — could the new battery fix this?
If the original battery has been deeply discharged below the BMS recovery threshold, the instrument won't receive enough voltage to boot even after a charge attempt. A fresh Ni-MH pack at full charge delivers the full 24V the FR-8x needs to initialise the DSP and power the display. Fit the replacement, connect it to the Roland charger, and allow a complete charge cycle before powering on — the instrument should boot normally once the pack reaches operating voltage.
The FR-8x audio sounds distorted and thin near the end of a session — is that a battery issue?
Yes. The FR-8x speaker amplifier is voltage-sensitive, and as the Ni-MH pack depletes, output voltage sags below the level the amp needs to drive the speakers cleanly. This causes audible thinning, distortion, or reduced low-end before the battery fully cuts out. It is not a speaker fault or a settings issue. Charge the battery fully before each session and the amp will receive a stable 24V supply throughout.
My FR-8x battery drains noticeably faster when I use it with external MIDI gear — is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong — this is expected behaviour. When the FR-8x is actively transmitting and receiving MIDI data alongside running its sound engine, the combined current draw across the 24V rail is higher than standalone play. The Ni-MH pack at 4500mAh handles this load, but depletion will happen faster than in a no-MIDI session. There is no fix required; plan for more frequent charging when running MIDI setups, and start every MIDI session with a fully charged pack.
