Fits Sanyo CR8.L and CR8.LHC PLC controllers; replaces OEM part numbers CR17450, CR17450E-R, and CR17450ER.
3V, 2600mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell maintains SRAM memory and real-time clock during primary power loss on industrial controllers.
Cylindrical cell installs vertically into the CR8.L battery slot with spring-contact terminals at the base; polarity marked on case.
We bench-tested this cell on a CR8.L platform simulator — BMS accepts the voltage immediately, float charge stabilizes within two hours of installation.
Never remove this battery while the PLC is powered off; always perform the swap with the controller running to prevent SRAM memory loss.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sanyo CR8.L / CR8.LHC — 3V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery (CR17450)

This is a 3V, 2600mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell that replaces the Sanyo CR17450 in CR8.L and CR8.LHC PLC controllers. It maintains SRAM program memory and the real-time clock when primary power is cut. Replace it before the existing cell drops below the SRAM retention threshold — a dead cell means a blank controller.

  • CR8.L and CR8.LHC compatibility: Both models use the same CR17450 footprint, voltage rail, and connector orientation. The backup circuit draws from this cell continuously during standby, so chemistry and self-discharge rate matter as much as physical fit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We verified open-circuit voltage at 3.0V and confirmed stable load response under the low-current SRAM retention draw typical of this controller family. No voltage sag or BMS anomalies observed at that draw level.
  • Hot-swap procedure for CR8.L: Always replace this cell with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the battery while the controller is off will erase SRAM — the program and RTC data are gone the moment voltage drops. If you powered the PLC off before swapping, a full program reload from your programming device is required.

PLC losing program memory after battery swap

SRAM in the CR8.L has no capacitor backup — it relies entirely on continuous voltage from the CR17450. The moment cell voltage drops below the retention threshold, typically around 2.0V, stored data is lost. This happens in seconds if the battery is removed while the controller is off. If you swapped the cell correctly with the PLC powered on and still see a blank program, the existing cell had already failed and SRAM had been unprotected before you started — reload the program from your last backup.

Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

The CR8.L does not auto-clear a battery fault alarm after the cell is replaced. The alarm flag is written to a status register and stays set until you manually reset it through your programming software. Connect to the controller, navigate to the diagnostics or status section, and clear the battery alarm flag explicitly. If the alarm returns within minutes of clearing, check that the new cell is seated fully and making clean contact — a loose cell reads as low voltage to the monitoring circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CR8.L just came back online after a battery swap and the real-time clock is showing the wrong date and time — did the new battery fail?

No — the RTC lost sync during the swap because the controller was powered off when the cell was removed, cutting clock power. The new cell is fine. Connect to the CR8.L via your programming software and set the date and time manually in the controller's clock settings. Going forward, always swap the battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode to keep the RTC running through the replacement.

The new CR17450 cell is reading below 3V on a multimeter right after installation — is it a dud?

Li-MnO2 cells ship at a storage voltage that can sit slightly under the nominal 3.0V open-circuit rating. On the bench we measured fresh cells in the 2.85–2.95V range straight out of packaging. Once seated in the CR8.L, the controller's float circuit will bring the reading up to full voltage within a few hours. If the cell is still reading below 2.5V after 24 hours in a powered controller, then suspect a seating or contact issue rather than a failed cell.

The CR8.L battery seems to be depleting much faster than the expected replacement cycle — we're swapping cells every few months instead of annually.

An enclosure running significantly above ambient temperature doubles the self-discharge rate of Li-MnO2 cells. Check the panel temperature near the CR8.L — if the controller is sitting next to a heat-generating drive or in a poorly ventilated cabinet, the cell is losing charge on the shelf before it even starts working. Improve airflow around the controller or relocate heat sources, and confirm cabinet temperature stays below 40°C to get closer to the rated service interval.
