Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Schenker Key 16 / Key 17 Series — 15.2V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (P970BAT-4)

This is a 15.2V, 3550mAh (53.96Wh) lithium-polymer replacement battery for the Schenker Key 16 and Key 17 notebook series. It fits the Key 16 (SKE16E19, SKE16M19), Key 17 M19bnr, and Key 17 E19tbz, among other compatible variants sharing the same OEM part number P970BAT-4. It restores portable operation after the original cell has degraded through repeated charge cycles.

  • Key 16 and Key 17 platform fit: These models share the same battery bay geometry, 15.2V nominal voltage rail, and P970BAT-4 connector pinout. The BMS handshake is consistent across the SKE16 and M19 chassis variants, so the same cell services all listed models without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on a Key 16 unit. The BMS negotiated correctly, charge termination triggered at 100%, and the protection circuit tripped at the expected low-voltage cutoff without requiring a manual reset.
  • Post-install calibration for Key series: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on this platform.

BIOS reporting battery health as poor after fitting the P970BAT-4

The Key series BIOS reads health data stored in the cell's EEPROM and compares it against historical charge data from the old battery. A brand-new cell has no accumulated cycle history, so the BIOS flags it as degraded or unknown on first boot. This is a data mismatch, not a fault with the replacement cell. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% to complete the battery learn cycle and clear the warning.

Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on Key 16

This happens when the fuel gauge IC on the motherboard has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The old cell's curve is still stored, so the system misreads the remaining capacity and triggers a low-battery shutdown too early. Two to three full discharge-and-charge cycles recalibrate the fuel gauge IC against the replacement cell. After calibration, the shutdown point should track correctly down to the real low-voltage cutoff near 12.0V under load.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Key 16 BIOS shows the replacement P970BAT-4 as 0% health — is the cell faulty?

The cell is not faulty. The BIOS reads EEPROM cycle history from the old battery and flags a new cell as degraded because there is no matching data. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this triggers the BIOS battery learn cycle and writes fresh health data to match the new cell.

Windows is showing the wrong Wh rating for this battery — it says something different from 53.96Wh

The Wh value displayed in Windows or the BIOS is pulled from the EEPROM on the cell, which stores the rated design capacity rather than a live measurement. The figure can differ slightly from the label spec depending on how the system rounds the data. This is a reporting difference, not a capacity loss — confirm the actual cell capacity by running a full discharge cycle and checking the logged mWh in a tool like HWiNFO or BatteryInfoView.

The new battery on the Key 17 M19bnr won't charge above 80% — is something wrong with the cell?

An 80% charge ceiling on Schenker notebooks is almost always the BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a cell fault. The Key 17 firmware includes a battery conservation mode that caps charging to extend cell lifespan. Check the Schenker Control Center application or the BIOS power settings under "Battery Charge Threshold" and set the upper limit to 100%.
