Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

SeaLife Sea Dragon Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (SL9831)
This is a 7.4V 3000mAh Li-ion replacement for the SeaLife SL9831 battery. It fits the Sea Dragon 1200, 1500, 2000, and 2100SF underwater flashlights, plus additional Sea Dragon variants. These are high-draw diving torches used by underwater photographers who need consistent output at depth.
- Sea Dragon platform compatibility: The Sea Dragon line shares a common 7.4V dual-cell architecture and the same physical pack format across the 1200 through 2100SF models. The BMS pinout and connector are standardised across the range, so one pack covers the full series without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on the Sea Dragon driver circuit and confirmed the BMS handshake completed correctly on first insertion. The protection circuit tripped at expected low-voltage cutoff, and charge acceptance across both cells was balanced throughout the cycle.
- Multi-cell replacement timing: The Sea Dragon pack houses two cells in series. If you mix a fresh replacement with a partially degraded original cell, the weaker cell depletes first under high-current turbo draw. Replace both cells from the same batch simultaneously — the SL9831 is a paired pack, so this happens automatically when you swap the full unit.
Why the Sea Dragon steps down output before the battery indicator reads low
The Sea Dragon's driver circuit uses brownout protection that monitors cell voltage in real time. As the pack approaches the lower end of its discharge curve, the driver steps output down before the indicator LED changes state. This is intentional — it protects the cells from dropping below safe voltage under the high current that turbo mode pulls. The indicator reflects state-of-charge, not the driver's voltage threshold, so the two can diverge by several minutes of use.
Turbo mode draining the pack significantly faster than standard mode
Turbo mode on the Sea Dragon 1200 draws substantially more current than standard or low modes — the ratio is typically five to ten times higher depending on the driver configuration. At that draw rate, a 3000mAh pack discharges along the steep section of the discharge curve faster than the indicator can track. If turbo runtime feels too short, switch to standard mode for mid-dive use and reserve turbo for targeted shots. Resting cell voltage after a turbo session should read above 6.4V on a multimeter — anything below that indicates the pack was taken close to cutoff.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Sea Dragon 1200 is flickering between modes near the end of a dive — what's happening?
This is driver brownout cycling. When cell voltage drops close to the driver's minimum threshold, the circuit briefly loses enough voltage to hold the selected mode, resets, and restarts — which can look like the light is flicking through modes on its own. It's a sign the pack is at or near end of discharge, not a fault with the light or the battery. Switch to low mode immediately to stabilise output and finish the dive above the BMS cutoff voltage of approximately 6.0V.
One side of the Sea Dragon pack gets noticeably warmer than the other during charging — is that normal?
It's not normal if the temperature difference is significant. An even charge rate across both cells in the series pack should produce roughly equal warmth. A large temperature gap usually means one cell has higher internal resistance — either from age, a previous deep discharge, or a manufacturing variance. Check that the charger contacts are clean and seated fully. If the imbalance persists across two full charge cycles, the pack has a degraded cell and should be replaced rather than continued in service.
The Sea Dragon won't turn on at all after sitting unused for several months — can the battery recover?
Extended storage at low state-of-charge can allow cell voltage to drop below the BMS re-engagement threshold, typically around 2.5V per cell. When voltage drops that far, the protection circuit locks out and the light will not respond to the power button. Place the pack on the charger for at least 30 minutes — many chargers apply a low-current pre-charge pulse that can bring the cells back above the lockout threshold. If the charger shows no activity or fault after 30 minutes, the cells have self-discharged past recovery and the pack needs replacing.
