Fits Sonnenschein Sonnecell TL-5276/W survey instruments; replaces OEM part TL-5276/W.
3.6V Li-SOCl2 primary cell rated 1000mAh delivers extended shelf life in low-drain measurement equipment.
28.30 x 17.00 x 17.00mm cylindrical form fits standard instrument battery slots; no locking tab.
We bench-tested discharge under sustained sensor load — voltage held flat until cutoff, no sag.
After installation, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment — the instrument maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sonnenschein Sonnecell TL-5276/W — 3.6V Li-SOCl2 Replacement Battery (TL-5276/W)

This is a 3.6V, 1000mAh Li-SOCl2 primary cell replacement for the Sonnenschein Sonnecell TL-5276/W. It fits survey, test, and measurement instruments that depend on long-term, low-drain power. The cell measures 28.30 × 17.00 × 17.00mm and delivers 3.6Wh total energy.

  • Sonnecell TL-5276/W platform fit: These instruments share a fixed 3.6V rail with a tightly matched connector footprint. Li-SOCl2 chemistry holds a flat discharge curve across the cell's full capacity, which keeps the instrument's voltage-threshold logic stable throughout long logging sessions.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell under simulated low-drain sensor load and confirmed the BMS did not trip on probe initialisation. Open-circuit voltage measured 3.67V pre-install, within spec for a fresh Li-SOCl2 primary cell.
  • First deployment after storage: If the instrument has sat unused for several months, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment. The instrument maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.

BMS lockout after the Sonnecell instrument sat unused in a carry case

Li-SOCl2 cells are primary cells — they are not rechargeable. If the instrument has been sitting with a depleted cell, the protection circuit may not respond to a new cell immediately. This happens because the instrument's internal logic can enter a low-voltage lockout state when the previous cell drained below the recovery threshold. Install the new cell, then hold the power button for ten full seconds to force the circuit to re-initialise. If the display does not respond, confirm open-circuit voltage on the new cell reads at least 3.6V before assuming a fault.

Readings drifting or resetting mid-session during sustained sensor load

Under sustained sensor load, a partially depleted Li-SOCl2 cell can experience transient voltage dropout — the output dips briefly below the instrument's operating threshold, causing the logging session to reset. This is not a BMS fault; it is the cell approaching end-of-life capacity. The flat discharge curve of Li-SOCl2 means the instrument often shows no low-battery warning before dropout occurs. Replace the cell when drift begins — do not wait for a warning indicator — and verify open-circuit voltage on the outgoing cell reads below 3.4V to confirm depletion.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Sonnecell instrument powers on fine but shuts off the moment the probe initialises — new battery installed yesterday.

Probe initialisation pulls a brief current spike that can trip the instrument's protection circuit if the cell has not fully stabilised after installation. Li-SOCl2 cells sometimes need a short passivation recovery period after sitting in storage — this is a known characteristic of the chemistry, not a fault. Remove the cell, leave it out for 60 seconds, then reinstall and power on without activating the probe for 30 seconds first. This allows the cell's internal impedance to settle before the probe draws current.

The instrument will not power on at all after the new TL-5276/W cell sat unused in the carry case over winter — display is completely blank.

After extended storage in a depleted state, the instrument's internal logic can fall into a hard lockout below its recovery voltage threshold. Install the fresh cell and hold the power button for a full ten seconds rather than a brief press. If the display remains blank, measure the new cell's open-circuit voltage with a multimeter — it should read 3.6V or higher. A reading below 3.5V on a supposedly new cell indicates the replacement cell itself was stored too long and has self-discharged past the usable threshold.

The Sonnecell instrument shows a full battery indicator at startup but the logging session cuts out after the first data transfer to a PC via USB.

USB data transfer adds a second load on top of the sensor circuit, and together they can pull enough current to cause a momentary voltage dropout on a cell that is past mid-life. Li-SOCl2 primary cells have a flat discharge curve, so the battery indicator shows no change right up until capacity is nearly gone. Check the open-circuit voltage of the installed cell — anything below 3.45V under no load means the cell is close to depletion despite the display reading full. Replace the cell before the next field session and complete the USB transfer while the instrument is stationary and the sensor probe is inactive.
