Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony CX405 Handycam & DSC-HX Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NP-BX1)
This is a 3.7V, 950mAh Li-ion replacement for the Sony NP-BX1 battery. It fits the CX405 Handycam, DSC-HX90V, DSC-HX90V/B, DSC-HX99, and over 100 additional Sony camera and camcorder models sharing the same NP-BX1 footprint. Capacity is 3.52Wh — matched to the original spec.
- Cross-model compatibility on the NP-BX1 platform: Sony spread the NP-BX1 format across compact cameras, camcorders, and action cams because they share the same 3.7V rail, physical connector, and BMS communication protocol. One cell format covers the full range without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell in a CX405 body and a DSC-HX90V. The BMS handshake completed on first install in both units. Charge acceptance, discharge curve, and battery-remaining display all behaved normally through full cycles.
- First-cycle calibration on Sony bodies: On first install, run one complete charge cycle through the camera body or OEM charger before heavy shooting. Sony's BMS maps the discharge curve to its indicator system during that first cycle — skipping it can cause the battery-remaining display to read inaccurately for several sessions.
Sony BMS rejecting a third-party NP-BX1 on first install
Some Sony bodies run an authentication check when a new cell is inserted. If the camera shows a battery error or refuses to power on with a fresh replacement, it does not always mean a faulty cell. The BMS needs one charge cycle initiated from within the camera body to register the new cell. Insert the battery, connect the camera to its USB charger or dock, and allow a full charge to complete before shooting. After that cycle, the error clears in most cases.
Battery percentage jumping or reading 0% on a charged cell
This happens when Sony's fuel gauge hasn't yet mapped the new cell's discharge curve to its voltage thresholds. The indicator system was calibrated against the original cell's degraded curve, so a fresh cell discharging at a different rate causes erratic percentage readings. Run two full charge-discharge cycles through the camera body. By the third cycle, the gauge recalibrates and percentage display stabilises.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Sony CX405 shuts down mid-recording even though the battery icon showed charge remaining — what's happening?
This is a voltage sag issue, not a capacity failure. Under sustained video recording, the CX405 draws current from the sensor, processor, image stabilisation, and the LCD simultaneously — that combined load can pull the cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold before the indicator reaches zero. It's most common in the first few cycles on a new cell before the fuel gauge recalibrates. Run two full charge-discharge cycles in the camera body, and the BMS will track the discharge curve more accurately.
Flash is firing but taking noticeably longer to recycle between shots on the DSC-HX90V with this battery — is that normal?
Slow flash recycle means the capacitor isn't recharging fast enough between shots, which points to current delivery dropping under load. On a brand-new cell this can happen if the battery hasn't completed its first full charge cycle — internal resistance is slightly elevated until the cell is broken in. Charge fully in the camera body once, then retest. If recycle time is still slow after two full cycles, check that the cell terminals are clean and seated fully against the contacts.
The CX405 records fine indoors but the battery drains noticeably faster in cold weather — is the battery defective?
It's not defective — Li-ion cells lose usable capacity in cold because lower temperatures slow the electrochemical reaction inside the cell, effectively raising internal resistance and reducing the voltage the BMS accepts as usable. The NP-BX1's 950mAh rating is measured at room temperature. Below around 10°C, expect a meaningful reduction in available capacity. Keep the camera inside a jacket pocket between shots to hold the cell close to body temperature, and the drop will be much less pronounced.
