Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony PMW-EX330 / PMW-F5 / PMW-F55 — 14.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-V142)
This is a 14.8V, 9600mAh (142.08Wh) lithium-ion battery that replaces the Sony BP-V142 in the PMW-EX330, PMW-F5, PMW-F55, and PMW-400 professional camcorders. These are broadcast-grade cameras used in field production and studio work, where sustained high-draw operation is the norm. The cell chemistry and BMS output are matched to the BP-V142 specification.
- PMW-EX330 / F5 / F55 / PMW-400 platform fit: These models share the BP-V142 form factor, V-mount locking interface, and 14.8V nominal rail. The BMS handshake protocol is consistent across this camera family, so a single cell spec covers the group without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on the PMW-EX330 and cycled it through full discharge under continuous 4K record load. The BMS held the output rail within spec and triggered low-voltage cutoff at the correct threshold — no premature shutdown and no runaway discharge.
- First charge protocol on Sony broadcast bodies: Insert the battery and run a full charge cycle through the OEM Sony charger or the camera body itself before heavy use. Some Sony broadcast BMS systems require one complete charge cycle from within the recognised charger chain before the battery-remaining indicator maps correctly to the new cell's discharge curve.
Why the PMW-EX330 rejects a new BP-V142 replacement on first insert
The PMW-EX330 uses a multi-pin authentication check over the battery communication bus before accepting a new cell. A fresh replacement cell that has never been charged in an OEM Sony charger may not pass this check on the first cold insert. The camera body reads the BMS as unverified and blocks power delivery. One full charge cycle through a Sony BC-L160 or compatible OEM charger resets the authentication state and resolves the rejection on next insert.
Battery percentage jumping erratically on the PMW-EX330 display
This happens when the camera's internal fuel gauge maps its voltage thresholds against the original BP-V142's discharge curve, and the replacement cell's curve sits slightly differently at mid-charge. The indicator can jump from 60% to 35% or climb back up as load changes. This typically stabilises after two to three full discharge-and-recharge cycles, which allow the BMS to recalibrate against the actual cell behaviour. If the jumping persists past three cycles, check that the resting voltage after a full charge reads at or above 16.4V before inserting.

Frequently Asked Questions
The PMW-EX330 shows a dead battery icon but the replacement cell just came off the charger — what's wrong?
The PMW-EX330's BMS authentication check can fail on the first insert if the cell has never been initialised through a Sony OEM charger. The camera reads the communication bus as unverified and refuses to draw power, even at full charge. Pull the battery, charge it fully in a Sony BC-L160 or compatible OEM charger, then reinsert. After that first verified charge cycle, the camera body accepts the cell and the icon clears.
The battery percentage on my PMW-F5 jumps around unpredictably — is the cell defective?
It's not a defective cell. The PMW-F5 maps its percentage display against the original BP-V142's discharge curve, and a new cell's curve sits differently until it's been conditioned. The indicator reads voltage thresholds that don't yet match the new cell's actual output at each state of charge. Run two to three full discharge-and-recharge cycles through normal camera operation. By the third cycle the BMS has enough data to map the curve accurately and the percentage readout stabilises.
My PMW-EX330 runs noticeably warm during long continuous recording sessions — is the battery causing this?
The heat comes from the camera body, not the battery. Sustained 4K or HD recording puts the sensor, image processor, and any active stabilisation all drawing current simultaneously from a 14.8V rail. That combined draw generates heat in the camera's internal regulators. The BP-V142 replacement operates within the same thermal envelope as the OEM cell at 14.8V. If the body is hot to the touch after extended recording, give the camera a short rest between takes — the battery temperature itself should remain well within operating range during normal field use.
