Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony PRS-T1 / PRS-T2 / PRS-T3 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (LIS1476)

This is a 3.7V, 700mAh lithium-polymer replacement battery for the Sony Reader Touch Edition e-reader line. It fits the PRS-T1, PRS-T2, PRS-T3, and PRS-T3S. The OEM part number is LIS1476, also cross-referenced as 1-853-104-11 and LIS1476MHPPC(SY6).

  • PRS-T1 through PRS-T3S compatibility: All four models share the same 3.7V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. Sony carried this cell across the entire T-series without changing the battery spec, so one cell covers all four variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on a PRS-T1 unit and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without fault flags. Charge acceptance was normal from first connection, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at low-voltage cutoff.
  • Firmware calibration after swap: After installing, charge the device via USB for a full cycle before using it. The Sony Reader firmware recalibrates its battery percentage display based on a complete charge–discharge cycle — skipping this step causes inaccurate readings for the first several sessions.

Why the PRS-T1 battery percentage jumps around after a cell swap

Sony's Reader firmware stores a charge model in memory tied to the previous cell's behaviour. When a new cell goes in, the firmware is still referencing the old model. This causes the percentage indicator to jump — sometimes reading 80% immediately, then dropping to 20% within minutes. The fix is two full charge-discharge cycles, which forces the firmware to rebuild the charge curve against the new cell's actual capacity.

E-reader shows low battery warning immediately after new cell installed

Replacement cells ship in storage mode — typically around 3.0V to 3.2V — to stay within safe transport limits. The PRS-T1 boot sequence checks resting voltage before loading the OS, and anything below approximately 3.4V triggers an immediate low-battery flag. The device is not faulty and the cell is not defective. Connect the USB cable and leave it on charge for at least 15 minutes before attempting to power on.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Sony PRS-T1 won't turn on at all after I swapped the battery — is the new cell dead?

Almost certainly not. Replacement cells ship at storage voltage, typically around 3.0–3.2V, and the PRS-T1 requires roughly 3.4V at the battery terminals just to start the boot sequence. Connect the USB cable to a wall adapter — not a PC port — and leave it for 10–15 minutes before pressing the power button. Once the charging indicator appears on screen, the cell has enough voltage to boot.

WiFi is draining this battery far faster than I expected — is something wrong with the cell?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. WiFi draw on the PRS-T1 is significantly higher than e-ink page refresh alone — the radio pulls continuous current during a sync, while an e-ink display only draws power at the moment of a page turn. A 700mAh cell at 3.7V handles reading sessions easily, but leaving WiFi active between sync sessions compresses that capacity fast. Turn WiFi off from the settings menu after each sync to keep draw in the display-only range.

Page turns on my PRS-T3 feel sluggish since the battery replacement — what causes that?

E-ink displays require a voltage pulse to flip the microcapsules in each pixel. When battery voltage sags below roughly 3.5V under load, the controller reduces the refresh pulse to protect the cell, which slows the visible page turn response. This usually appears early in a charge cycle before the cell has been properly calibrated. Run two full charge-discharge cycles and check that the USB cable you are using supports at least 500mA — a low-current cable extends charge time and keeps resting voltage lower than it should be.
