Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sylvania 39230 / 39370 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This 3.6V, 1200mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the factory pack in the Sylvania 39230 and 39370 cordless handsets. It restores standby and talk time lost to cell degradation in older packs. Physical dimensions are 50.43 × 42.54 × 14.40mm — check your existing pack before ordering.

  • 39230 and 39370 compatibility: Both models run the same 3.6V three-cell Ni-MH pack with identical connector pin-out and compartment dimensions. One replacement covers either handset without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a Sylvania 39230 handset. The base station accepted the new pack without a charging error, and cell voltage stabilised correctly across all three cells by the third cycle.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells shipped from storage are partially discharged — a slow initial charge lets all three cells equalise and reach rated capacity.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

New Ni-MH packs rarely hit rated capacity on the first cycle. The cells need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before the chemistry reaches its working range. Each cycle, capacity steps up noticeably. If talk time is still short after five cycles, check that the handset sits flush in the base — poor contact reduces charge current and leaves cells undercharged.

Handset not pairing with base after battery swap

Removing the old battery cuts power completely to the handset's DECT module, which can wipe the stored pairing. The fix is straightforward: hold the handset's Paging or Find button while pressing the Locator button on the base for three seconds. Most Sylvania DECT handsets re-register within 30 seconds. Once paired, confirm the handset shows a signal bar before returning it to the base.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Sylvania 39230 battery drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — is the new pack faulty?

This is almost always a seating issue, not a faulty cell. If the handset isn't fully clicked into the charging contacts, the base delivers no charge current while the handset's standby circuits slowly pull the pack down. Remove the handset, clean the charging contacts on both the base and handset with a dry cloth, then firmly reseat it — you should hear or feel a slight click. Check that the charging indicator light activates on the base.

The base station shows a red or error light and won't charge the new Ni-MH battery — what's wrong?

Ni-MH packs lose voltage during storage. If the pack voltage drops low enough, the base station's charge controller reads it as a fault rather than a flat battery. Place the handset in the base for 30 minutes, remove it, then reseat it firmly — this triggers a fresh charge-acceptance check. If the error clears, let it complete a full 16-hour charge. If it doesn't clear, measure pack voltage with a multimeter: a reading below 2.5V across the pack means the cells need a low-rate conditioning charge from an external Ni-MH charger before the base will accept them.

After swapping the battery, the range on my 39370 dropped noticeably — calls break up further from the base than before.

Range drops when the handset's RF transmitter can't sustain output power, which happens when battery voltage sags under the load of a DECT transmission burst. A new Ni-MH pack that hasn't been through conditioning cycles will sag more than a fully broken-in pack. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles and range will stabilise as internal resistance drops. If range is still poor after five cycles, check that the handset antenna area isn't obstructed by the battery cover — a loose cover on 39370 handsets can partially block the internal antenna.
