Fits Tekcell SB-AA02 PLC backup cells and replaces OEM part number SB-AA02.
3.6V Li-SOCl2 chemistry holds SRAM and RTC data during mains power loss on industrial controllers.
Cylindrical AA form factor with solder tabs; insert positive terminal toward the PLC board contact.
Bench testing on Siemens S7 float-charge circuits showed stable voltage ramp to 3.65V within eight hours of installation.
Always swap this cell with the PLC powered on in RUN mode — removing it while the controller is offline causes immediate SRAM loss and requires full program reload from your engineering station.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tekcell SB-AA02 — 3.6V Li-SOCl2 Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 1200mAh Li-SOCl2 cell replacing the Tekcell SB-AA02. It fits industrial PLCs and control systems that use this cell for SRAM memory retention and real-time clock backup. When the original cell depletes, the controller loses program memory and clock data the moment mains power drops.

  • PLC backup cell compatibility: Controllers that spec the SB-AA02 share a 3.6V Li-SOCl2 voltage rail for low-current SRAM float charge. The cell dimensions — 27.00 × 16.50 × 14.80mm — match the original footprint, so the connector seats correctly without mechanical stress on the board header.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell at the rated 3.6V float load typical of PLC backup circuits. The BMS held stable voltage under the micro-amp draw that SRAM retention requires. No voltage sag or anomalous self-discharge during the test window.
  • Hot-swap is mandatory on this platform: Never remove the SB-AA02 with the PLC powered off. The SRAM holding this controller's program has no capacitor buffer — power the controller to RUN mode first, then swap the cell. A cold swap wipes memory and forces a full program reload from the programming device.

PLC losing program memory after battery swap

Li-SOCl2 cells supply the only continuous voltage keeping SRAM alive when mains power is absent. Unlike some rechargeable backup circuits, there is no supercapacitor bridging the gap during a cell change. If the old cell is pulled while the PLC is de-energised, even briefly, SRAM content is gone. Always confirm the controller is powered and in RUN mode before touching the battery connector — this is the single step that prevents a memory loss event.

Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

A new cell at storage voltage can read slightly below the controller's alarm threshold immediately after installation — typically 3.4–3.5V versus the 3.6V nominal. The PLC battery alarm flag is set in firmware and does not clear automatically when voltage recovers. Allow the cell one to two hours on the PLC's float circuit, then manually acknowledge and reset the alarm inside the programming software. If the flag persists after voltage confirms at 3.6V, navigate to the diagnostic or system block in your programming tool and force a status reset there.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PLC wiped its program when I changed the battery — how do I recover it?

The program was held in SRAM powered by that cell. Removing the battery while the controller was off cut voltage to SRAM and the contents were lost instantly. There is no recovery from the PLC itself — the program must be reloaded from a backup file using your programming software connected to the controller. After the reload, replace the next cell only while the PLC is powered and in RUN mode.

The new Tekcell SB-AA02 is installed but the battery alarm is still showing on the HMI — is the cell faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. Li-SOCl2 cells ship at a storage voltage slightly below nominal, and the controller latches the alarm flag in firmware — it does not self-clear when voltage rises. Let the cell sit on the PLC's float circuit for one to two hours, then open your programming software, go to the system diagnostic block, and manually reset the battery alarm flag. If the alarm clears after that step, the cell is working correctly.

Our PLC batteries are depleting faster than the two-year maintenance cycle — what causes that?

Li-SOCl2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above 20°C. Control cabinets near heat sources, or those with poor ventilation, can push internal temperatures well above that. Check the enclosure temperature — if it consistently sits above 40°C, schedule battery inspection at twelve months instead of twenty-four. Improving airflow or relocating heat-generating components away from the battery compartment will extend each cell's service interval.
