The fuel gauge IC hasn't yet mapped the new cell's actual discharge curve after a swap, so the cutoff point looks premature. Two full discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles recalibrate the fuel gauge and shift the reported cutoff back to the correct low point.

BIOS reporting battery health as poor immediately after fitting

The G170P BIOS reads health data from EEPROM stored on the battery's onboard controller, not from live cell measurements. A new pack ships with factory EEPROM values that haven't been written by this specific machine, so the BIOS flags it as unknown or degraded on first boot. This clears after the BIOS completes a full learn cycle — one full discharge to hibernate and a complete uninterrupted charge to 100%. After that cycle, the BIOS rewrites the health register and the warning disappears.
