Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tolino Shine 2 HD / Shine 3 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery
This 3.7V, 1500mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Tolino Shine 2 HD and Shine 3 e-readers. Both models use the same cell format — 84.15 × 49.50 × 2.70mm — with the same connector and BMS handshake requirements. Capacity is 1500mAh (5.55Wh), matching the factory specification.
- Shine 2 HD and Shine 3 compatibility: Both devices share the same cell dimensions, voltage rail, and connector pinout. The battery management system on each model expects the same charge termination voltage, so one cell covers both without any modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Shine 2 HD unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V, and the firmware reported capacity without error after a full cycle.
- Post-swap charge cycle on e-readers: After fitting this cell, run a full USB charge to completion before first use. The Tolino firmware reads the new cell's state-of-charge from scratch — skipping this step causes the battery percentage display to jump or read incorrectly until the calibration cycle completes.
Why the Tolino Shine 2 HD shows low battery immediately after a new cell is fitted
Replacement cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6V to 3.85V — not at full charge. The Tolino firmware checks state-of-charge on boot and reports what it finds. If the cell voltage is below the display's calibration threshold, the device shows a low battery warning even though the cell is not defective. Connect to a USB charger straight after fitting the new cell and leave it until the charge indicator clears. Do not dismiss the warning and expect normal use — the firmware needs to complete one full charge sweep to anchor its percentage readings to the new cell.
Page turns slow or unresponsive after battery replacement
E-ink displays draw a short high-current pulse to refresh each page. Under low cell voltage, that pulse takes longer to execute, which shows up as a delayed or sluggish page turn. This is not a fault with the replacement cell — it is the display controller throttling refresh speed to stay within the available voltage. Charge the device fully first; page turn speed returns to normal once cell voltage is above 3.9V. If sluggishness persists after a full charge, reseat the battery connector and confirm the cell contacts are fully engaged.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Tolino Shine 2 HD won't turn on at all after fitting the replacement battery — is the cell dead?
Unlikely. Replacement Li-Polymer cells ship at storage voltage, which can be too low to trigger the Shine 2 HD's boot sequence. Connect the device to a USB charger immediately and leave it for at least 10 minutes without pressing the power button. Once the cell climbs above approximately 3.5V, the device will boot. If it still shows nothing after 20 minutes on charge, reseat the battery connector — a partially seated connector is the most common cause of a complete no-boot after a swap.
The battery percentage on my Tolino Shine 3 jumps around — it shows 80%, then drops to 20% without much use. Is the new cell faulty?
This is firmware recalibration, not a faulty cell. After a cell swap, the Tolino firmware has no learned capacity data for the new battery and estimates state-of-charge loosely until it completes a full charge-and-discharge cycle. Run the device down to the low-battery warning, then charge it fully in one uninterrupted session. The percentage readings stabilise after one or two complete cycles as the firmware maps the new cell's actual capacity curve.
WiFi sync is draining the new battery far faster than normal reading — is something wrong with the replacement cell?
Nothing is wrong. WiFi draw on the Shine 2 HD and Shine 3 runs significantly higher than e-ink display refresh alone — the radio pulls sustained current that the display never does. A reading-only session and a session with active WiFi sync are not comparable loads. Disable WiFi auto-sync and connect manually when needed. If drain still seems excessive with WiFi off, check that the device is not stuck in a background sync loop — go to settings and confirm sync is set to manual.
