Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TomTom Go 540 / Go 540 Live — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (VF1 / AHL03711001)

This is a 3.7V 1100mAh Li-ion cell for the TomTom Go 540 and Go 540 Live portable GPS navigators. It replaces OEM part numbers VF1 and AHL03711001. The cell fits the Go 540, Go 540 Live, and model 4CF5.002.00.

  • Go 540 and Go 540 Live compatibility: Both devices share the same battery bay dimensions, connector, and 3.7V supply rail. The Go 540 Live adds real-time traffic data over a live services connection, but the battery spec is identical across the cluster — same cell, same fit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on a Go 540 unit. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, the device powered on cleanly, and voltage held stable through normal navigation workloads including display and GPS receiver operation.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After any full power interruption, the Go 540 performs a GPS cold start. Take the device outdoors after fitting this cell and allow 5–10 minutes for first satellite fix. Subsequent power cycles will lock significantly faster once almanac data is refreshed.

Why the Go 540 shuts off without a low-battery warning

The Go 540 calibrates its battery indicator against the original cell's discharge curve. When a degraded or replacement cell is first installed, the device's internal fuel gauge is uncalibrated and may not accurately track remaining capacity. The result is a sudden shutdown when the cell voltage drops below the protection threshold, with no visual warning beforehand. After a full charge cycle and one complete discharge, the indicator recalibrates and warnings appear at the correct level.

GPS accuracy dropping as the battery gets low

Some TomTom Go units reduce GPS receiver sensitivity at low battery to extend operation. This shows up as position drift or slower route recalculation rather than a complete signal loss. The receiver is still locked to satellites, but signal processing is running at reduced power. Keep the device above 3.6V during active navigation to maintain full receiver performance — connect to USB power on longer trips.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Go 540 lost all my saved routes after I swapped the battery — can I get them back?

Saved routes and some POIs on the Go 540 are held in flash memory, but certain user data may be backed by battery power to maintain state during a swap. A full power removal — like a dead or removed battery — can wipe that volatile data. Re-enter critical routes manually after the swap, then back them up via TomTom HOME or MyDrive on your PC so a future swap doesn't lose them again.

After fitting the new battery, my Go 540 is taking forever to find satellites — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. When the Go 540 loses power completely, it loses its stored GPS almanac data and must perform a cold start on next use. A cold start can take 5–10 minutes outdoors to acquire a full satellite fix, compared to under a minute for a normal warm start. Take the device outside with a clear sky view after fitting, leave it powered on, and it will lock on. Subsequent starts will be fast once the almanac is rebuilt.

My Go 540 is draining noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating compared to when it's just sitting idle — is this a battery fault?

It's not a battery fault. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the display simultaneously at full load — that combination draws significantly more current than standby. Display brightness is the largest single variable; drop it one or two steps in Settings > Brightness and you'll see a measurable reduction in draw. If drain is still excessive, check that the device isn't in a high-accuracy satellite mode that keeps the receiver polling constantly.
