Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TomTom XL IQ / V3 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (6027A0093901)

This 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the TomTom XL IQ and V3 portable GPS navigators, including models 4EM0.001.01 and N14644. The unit measures 53 × 34 × 4mm and matches the original connector and form factor. Capacity figure is taken directly from product specifications — 4.07Wh total.

  • XL IQ and V3 shared platform: These models run on the same internal board revision and use an identical voltage rail at 3.7V nominal. The connector pinout and BMS communication protocol are the same across all listed fit models, so one cell covers the full group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on a TomTom XL IQ unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V, and low-voltage cutoff engaged at the expected threshold.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the GPS on outdoors before driving. A full power interruption clears the almanac cache, so the first satellite fix after a battery swap can take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop under one minute once the cache rebuilds.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the XL IQ

As this cell drops below approximately 3.5V under load, the TomTom XL IQ reduces power to the GPS receiver module to extend operation. That reduction cuts receiver sensitivity, which means the unit may drop from a strong multi-satellite fix to a weaker position estimate. The effect shows up as position drift or sluggish map tracking, not as an error message. Swap or charge the battery before it reaches the low-battery warning to keep full receiver performance.

TomTom XL IQ shuts off without warning before the battery icon empties

An aged or deeply discharged cell develops higher internal resistance, which causes voltage to sag sharply under the load of the display and GPS receiver together. The device hits its hardware cutoff threshold — typically around 3.3V — while the fuel gauge still reads partial charge, because the gauge was calibrated to a healthier cell. The result is an abrupt shutdown that looks like a crash. Fitting a fresh cell and running two full charge cycles recalibrates the gauge and restores accurate low-battery warnings.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TomTom XL IQ lost all my saved routes and favourites after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The XL IQ stores saved routes and some POI data in battery-backed RAM, so a full power removal wipes that memory. Favourites stored to internal flash survive the swap, but active route history and unsaved stops do not. Before pulling the old cell, sync your device to TomTom HOME on a PC to back up saved places, then restore after fitting the new battery.

Satellite lock is taking 5–10 minutes every time I start the XL IQ after the battery replacement — what's happening?

That delay is a cold start, not a fault. The GPS almanac and ephemeris data — the files that tell the receiver where satellites are — are cached in volatile memory and cleared when power is fully removed. The receiver has to download fresh data from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Once the cache rebuilds, subsequent starts lock in under a minute.

Active navigation drains this battery much faster than just leaving the XL IQ sitting on the dash — why?

During active navigation the GPS receiver is polling continuously and the display runs at full brightness, both drawing from the same 1100mAh cell simultaneously. Standby keeps the screen dim or off and the receiver in a low-power hold state. To extend charge on long drives, drop display brightness one or two steps in the device settings — the receiver load stays constant, but the display is the single largest drain you can actually control.
