This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH battery for Toshiba cordless phones including the BT-311, FD-4809, FD-9839, and FD-9859. It replaces OEM part numbers TBR-8000 and TRB-1981. The battery slots into the handset and restores wireless operation once the original pack no longer holds a charge.

Why your Toshiba handset loses range after a battery swap

NiMH cells that haven't completed conditioning cycles run at slightly lower resting voltage — typically 3.4V instead of a full 3.6V. The handset's RF transmitter pulls harder on the pack during active calls, and a low-voltage cell sags further under that load. The DECT radio then reduces transmit power to compensate, which cuts effective range. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles and resting voltage stabilises, restoring normal transmit behaviour.

Base station shows no charge light after installing the new pack

Toshiba base stations check for a minimum voltage before beginning the charge cycle — a pack fresh from storage can sit below that threshold. Remove the handset, leave the battery in place for ten minutes at room temperature, then reseat it firmly in the cradle. If the charge indicator still doesn't activate, check that both contacts on the handset base are clean and making full contact. A brief wipe with a dry cloth on the charging pins is usually enough to complete the circuit.

It's not faulty — NiMH batteries need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated 700mAh capacity. Each cycle conditions the cells and pushes resting voltage closer to the full 3.6V. Run the handset down until it signals low battery, then charge fully in the base for 16 hours, and repeat. By cycle four or five, talk time should match or exceed the original pack.

My Toshiba handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT phones drop their pairing data when power is fully lost. Re-register the handset using the base station's page or registration button — on most Toshiba models, hold the Find Handset button on the base for five seconds, then follow the handset's on-screen pairing prompt. No tools required, and the process takes under two minutes.

The handset battery drains overnight even when it's sitting in the base — what's causing that?

This points to a seating issue, not a bad cell. If the handset isn't fully clicked into the cradle, the charging contacts don't complete the circuit and the battery runs on standby draw all night.
