Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Toshiba Gigashot GSC-K80H / GSC-A100F Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (GSC-BT6)

This is a 7.4V, 1050mAh Li-ion replacement for the Toshiba GSC-BT6 battery. It fits the Gigashot GSC-K80H, GSC-K40H, GSC-A40F, and GSC-A100F compact digital video cameras. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge.

  • GSC-K and GSC-A series compatibility: Both the K-series and A-series Gigashot camcorders share the same 7.4V two-cell Li-ion pack format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake. One battery works across all four models listed without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the GSC-K80H body, monitoring BMS communication during charge and discharge. The protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff and accepted full charge without error flags.
  • First charge via camcorder body: Charge this battery inside the Gigashot body before using an external charger. Some Toshiba Gigashot BMS units require one in-body charge cycle to calibrate the battery-remaining indicator to a new cell's discharge curve.

Gigashot battery indicator stuck at full — then drops to zero without warning

The Gigashot series maps battery percentage to a fixed voltage-threshold table stored in firmware. A new Li-ion cell has a slightly different discharge curve than the degraded OEM cell the camera last calibrated against. The indicator reads the open-circuit voltage and reports full, then jumps to empty as the cell voltage crosses the threshold the camera expects at a lower state of charge. One full charge and discharge cycle through the camera body resets the mapping and brings the indicator back in line with actual capacity.

Camera displaying "no battery" with a fully charged replacement installed

This happens when the BMS in the camera body has not yet authenticated the new cell. On first install, some Gigashot units reject an unrecognised pack and display a no-battery warning rather than a low-battery warning — the distinction matters for diagnosis. Remove the battery, reinsert it firmly until the latch clicks, then power on. If the warning persists, place the battery in the camera and connect to the mains charger; after the charge LED activates, the body completes its handshake and the warning clears. Check that contact voltage on the battery terminals reads at least 7.2V before retrying.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Gigashot GSC-K80H shows the battery percentage jumping around erratically — is the replacement cell faulty?

Not necessarily faulty. The GSC-K80H maps its battery indicator to fixed voltage thresholds, and a new cell's discharge curve sits slightly differently from the worn OEM cell the firmware last saw. The indicator reads the voltage at rest, then overcorrects when load from the sensor or display drops it past a threshold. Run one complete charge and discharge cycle through the camera body — the indicator will stabilise once the BMS has mapped the new cell's actual voltage behaviour.

The shot count on my Gigashot is lower than I expected from a 1050mAh cell — what's drawing it down?

The 1050mAh figure is the total stored energy, not a shot-count guarantee. The Gigashot GSC-K80H draws continuously during video recording — sensor, processor, LCD, and the optical image stabilisation system all pull current simultaneously. That combined draw is significantly higher than a still camera firing a shutter. Cold ambient temperatures also suppress Li-ion output voltage, which triggers the BMS low-voltage cutoff earlier than the cell's rated capacity is reached. Keep the camera above 10°C during recording to get the full capacity from the cell.

My Gigashot camcorder gets warm during long recording sessions and then shuts off — is the battery causing it?

The shutdown is almost certainly thermal, but the battery is not the primary heat source. During sustained video recording, the image sensor and encoding processor together generate most of the heat in the GSC-K80H body. The battery adds a small amount of heat as it delivers current, but the camera's thermal cutoff is protecting the processor, not the cell. Break recordings into shorter clips to let the body cool between takes, and ensure the battery contacts are clean so resistance at the terminal doesn't add unnecessary heat at that junction.
