Fits Toshiba Satellite P20W-C and Radius 12 P20W-C variants; replaces OEM part PA5242U-1BRS.
11.4V at 3600mAh delivers 41.04Wh — matched to this platform's power envelope for full-length work sessions.
Connector slides into the battery slot at the chassis rear; locking tab engages flush with the frame.
We ran a full charge cycle on a P20W-C unit; the BMS accepted the cell cleanly and held voltage under sustained CPU load.
After install, discharge fully to hibernation cutoff then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears health warnings that appear after cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Toshiba Satellite P20W-C Series — 11.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (PA5242U-1BRS)

This is an 11.4V, 3600mAh (41.04Wh) Li-Polymer battery for the Toshiba Satellite P20W-C convertible laptop range. It fits the Satellite Radius 12 P20W-C, P20W-C-103, P20W-C-104, and related models sharing the PA5242U-1BRS part number. The slim 6.30mm profile matches the original cell geometry so the back panel seats without force.

  • Satellite P20W-C compatibility: These models share a common 11.4V three-cell Li-Polymer architecture, the same connector pinout, and an identical BMS handshake protocol — which is why one part number covers the full P20W-C and Radius 12 sub-range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a P20W-C unit and confirmed the BMS accepted the pack without fault codes, charge negotiation completed through to 100%, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at low-voltage cutoff under a simulated load cycle.
  • Post-swap calibration on P20W-C: After fitting, run one full discharge down to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health or capacity warning that appears after a cell swap on this platform.

BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after fitting a new cell

The P20W-C BIOS reads health data from EEPROM registers written by the original factory cell. When a replacement cell arrives, those registers either carry default values or differ from what the firmware expects — so the system flags the battery as degraded before it has ever been cycled. This is a firmware state issue, not a fault with the replacement cell. Running one complete discharge-to-hibernate and full recharge gives the BIOS enough data to rewrite its health estimate against the new cell's actual chemistry. After two to three full cycles the reported health figure stabilises.

Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's discharge curve. The IC was tuned to the old cell's voltage profile and calls the cutoff point too early — the percentage shown does not match actual remaining charge. Under combined CPU and display load the voltage sag is steep enough that the protection circuit cuts power before the gauge reaches zero. Force a slow, full discharge with screen brightness at maximum and no power-saving mode active, then charge to 100% without interruption. Repeat this twice and the fuel gauge IC recalibrates to the correct voltage cliff point for this cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

My P20W-C shows the replacement battery as "0% available (plugged in, charging)" and never moves — what's happening?

The BIOS is reading stale EEPROM data from the old cell and hasn't yet recognised the new pack as a valid source. This is a BIOS battery learn cycle issue, not a charging fault. Connect AC power, let the laptop charge uninterrupted for a full two hours, then do a complete discharge to hibernate cutoff. After one full cycle the BIOS rewrites its register values and the percentage readout returns to normal.

Windows reports this battery's capacity as 28Wh but the cell is rated 41.04Wh — is the cell faulty?

No — Windows is pulling the Wh figure from EEPROM data written by the original factory cell, not from the new cell's actual chemistry. The rated value stored in those registers doesn't automatically update on swap. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate and recharge cycles; the fuel gauge IC recalculates against the real cell and Windows updates the reported Wh figure to reflect actual capacity.

The P20W-C stops charging at 80% and won't go higher — is this a problem with the replacement cell?

Not a cell fault. The P20W-C BIOS includes a charge-limit setting that caps charging at 80% when eco or battery-care mode is active in Toshiba's power management software. Open Toshiba System Settings or the pre-installed eco utility, locate the battery charge mode option, and switch it from "Eco Charge" to "Maximum Charge." The battery will then charge to 100% on the next full cycle.
