Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Tosight TSEL-110 / TSEL-2000 — 7.2V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NL374964H-2S)
This 7.2V, 1200mAh Li-ion pack replaces the OEM NL374964H-2S battery in Tosight TSEL-110 and TSEL-2000 survey and measurement instruments. It matches the original voltage rail and physical form factor exactly. Capacity is 1200mAh (8.64Wh), matching the stock specification.
- TSEL-110 and TSEL-2000 compatibility: Both models run the same 7.2V bus, share the NL374964H-2S form factor, and use identical BMS handshake protocols — so one pack covers both instruments without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through probe initialisation sequences, which pull a short current spike at power-up. The BMS held the load without tripping, and the instrument accepted the pack without error flags.
- Post-install calibration step: After fitting this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before heading to the field. The TSEL maps battery state during calibration — skip it and the instrument will throw premature low-battery warnings on your first measurement session.
BMS lockout after the TSEL-110 sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the pack drops below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters a protective lockout state and the instrument will not recognise it at all. Placing a locked-out pack on the charger often does nothing because the charger handshake also fails below that threshold. To recover, apply a compatible charger that supports a slow pre-charge or trickle mode — this brings cell voltage back above the BMS wake-up floor, typically around 2.9V per cell, at which point normal charging resumes.
Instrument shuts down mid-measurement despite showing adequate charge
This happens when sustained sensor load pulls the pack voltage below the instrument's cutoff threshold — not because the pack is empty, but because internal resistance causes a momentary voltage sag under load. An ageing OEM cell exaggerates this sag even at 50% state of charge. A fresh pack with lower internal resistance holds the voltage rail steady through the same load. If the new pack still triggers shutdowns, check that you ran the post-install calibration cycle — the instrument needs to map the new cell's voltage curve before it can track state of charge accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions
My TSEL-110 powers on fine but shuts off as soon as I connect it to my PC for data transfer — is the battery the problem?
USB data transfer adds a combined draw from the instrument processor and the USB controller running simultaneously, which pushes total current demand higher than normal measurement operation. If the pack's internal resistance is elevated — common in degraded cells — voltage sags under that combined load and the instrument hits its cutoff threshold. We saw this exact behaviour clear up after swapping to a fresh pack with lower internal resistance. If the issue persists with a new battery, check that the calibration cycle has been run, as the instrument needs an accurate voltage map to manage load correctly.
The TSEL-2000 shows a different battery percentage every time I reboot — why won't it settle on a consistent reading?
The instrument's voltage-threshold indicator is recalibrating itself to the new cell's discharge curve, and it takes a few full charge-discharge cycles to stabilise. This is expected behaviour when fitting any new pack — the instrument was previously mapping state of charge against an old cell with a different internal resistance profile. Run the calibration cycle through the instrument menu after fitting the new pack, then complete two full charge and discharge cycles in the field. The percentage readout will stabilise once the instrument has enough data points from the new cell.
After my TSEL-110 sat in storage for three months, it won't take a charge at all — the charger just shows no activity.
The pack most likely dropped below the BMS wake-up voltage during storage — typically around 2.5V per cell — and entered a protective sleep state. Standard chargers refuse to charge in this state because the handshake fails below that floor. Use a charger with a trickle or pre-charge mode to bring each cell back above approximately 2.9V, at which point the BMS re-initialises and normal charging resumes. If the pack does not respond after 30 minutes of trickle charge, the cells have likely self-discharged past recovery and the pack needs replacement.
