Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Senter ST805C — 7.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery
This 7.4V, 1000mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the depleted or degraded pack in the Senter ST805C field survey and test instrument. It matches the original voltage rail and connector configuration for the ST805C. Capacity is 1000mAh (7.4Wh), identical to the factory specification.
- ST805C platform fit: The ST805C uses a slim Li-Polymer cell at 7.4V nominal to power its measurement processor, probe interface, and display simultaneously. Substituting a mismatched voltage or cell format causes BMS rejection at handshake — this pack matches all three parameters.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through probe initialisation sequences on the ST805C, monitoring BMS response during the current spike at sensor power-up. The BMS held without tripping, and the instrument completed full measurement cycles without mid-session cutoff.
- First-use calibration cycle: After installing this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the ST805C instrument menu before field deployment. The instrument maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session even when the pack is fully charged.
BMS lockout after the ST805C sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-Polymer cells self-discharge slowly during storage. If the ST805C sat unused long enough, the cell voltage drops below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell on a 7.4V (2S) pack. At that point, the BMS enters a protective lockout state and the instrument will not power on even when placed on charge. The charger must detect a minimum cell voltage before it begins a charge cycle, so a deeply discharged pack appears dead. To recover, apply a compatible charger for 15–30 minutes; if the pack remains unresponsive below 3.0V total, it has passed the recovery window and requires replacement.
ST805C shuts down during USB data transfer to PC
USB data transfer to a PC activates the ST805C's communication controller simultaneously with the display and any active probe load. The combined current draw at that moment can push the instantaneous load past the BMS overcurrent threshold, triggering a protective shutdown. This is more likely on an aged cell where internal resistance has increased — voltage sags sharply under the combined draw even if the battery indicator showed sufficient charge. Replace the pack and ensure firmware is current, as some ST805C firmware versions include a reduced USB transfer rate option that lowers the current spike.

Frequently Asked Questions
My ST805C turns on fine but shuts off the moment I connect a probe — new battery still does it. What's happening?
Probe initialisation draws a short current spike as the sensor module powers up, and if the BMS trip threshold is set conservatively, even a fresh pack can cut out at that moment. We saw this on the bench when the probe connector had slight oxidation increasing contact resistance, which amplifies the voltage sag the BMS sees. Clean the probe connector contacts with isopropyl alcohol, then reconnect. If the shutdown stops, the issue was contact resistance — not the pack.
Readings start drifting or the logging session resets mid-run, but the battery indicator looks fine. What causes that?
Sustained sensor load during a long logging session draws a steady current that gradually pulls cell voltage down. The ST805C display updates the battery indicator at intervals, so it can show a healthy level while the actual terminal voltage under load has already sagged enough to affect the measurement processor. A degraded original pack loses voltage faster under sustained draw than the indicator reflects. Fit the replacement pack and verify terminal voltage reads at or above 7.2V under load using the instrument's diagnostics menu if available.
The ST805C won't charge after months sitting unused — charger light comes on briefly then goes off. How do I fix this?
A pack left discharged for months drops below the BMS recovery voltage, and the charger's safety circuit detects insufficient cell voltage and aborts the charge cycle. Leave the charger connected for 20–30 minutes without interrupting it — some chargers apply a trickle current to nudge the pack above the recovery threshold before switching to full charge. If the charge light still aborts after 30 minutes, measure total pack voltage with a multimeter; below 3.0V on a 7.4V (2S) pack means the cells are outside the recovery window and the pack needs replacement.
